Exercise Support Thread Week of 11/30/2008
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!
As we begin our new liturgical year, perhaps this is a good time to make our New Year's Resolutions.
Of course, we could just set goals for the week. My goals are to run 24 miles, including a 9 mile long run, which I plan to do today. The winds are blowing today, so I'm going to have to drive outside the windy zone. But I can't skip my long run this week, as I have a 15K race next Sunday.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 11/30/2008
I just got back from my 9 mile run. I drove down the hill, and it wasn't so windy there, so I decided to run my usual route. It got windy at times, but that wasn't a problem. The dryness, however, was a problem. I find it hard to keep my energy up when I'm so dry. But I made it.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 11/30/2008
Only got to the gym on Monday and Saturday last week due to visiting family and Thanksgiving celebrations.
Plan on going tonight (Monday), Thursday night, and Saturday this week.
It's my usual ritual of Step classes w/ab workouts. I know: I'm a guy and these classes are usually dominated by women. I've been doing Step for ~15 years now. I think perhaps they appeal to the old military drill stuff I did decades ago, except the music is better. ;-) Besides, my wife is a Step instructor, and a kick butt one at that!

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 11/30/2008
Been a while, been busy with mostly family stuff.
I am doing a morning routine now where I either run 4 miles, or do 40 min on my eliptical(Mon-Fri early AM). Sat morning is for fishing & Sunday for Mass.
Now that winter is here I will be spending more time on my eliptical then outside. Not that the cold bothers me as much as the risk of slipping on ice, or getting hit by a car if I run in the street.
I am still pretty big into walking & biking. But walking is where it's at in the winter.
Hope everyone is doing well & keeping with thier routines.
Frank

Scott, welcome back. It's great to see you. I love step classes, but haven't been in one for years. But now that you mention it, I seem to recall usually being the only guy in these classes. But then again, maybe that why I kept going.

Frank, that's a pretty impressive routine. 40 minutes on the elliptical! Wow.

9 miles ain't so bad either.
I just keep it equal with my run time. 40 mins is what it takes me to go 4 miles, so my morning workout is always the same. I can't let it go any longer then 50 min total cuz I need to get the kids up for school.
Someday I want to go further, like 9 miles but it's not in the plan right now. Plus working out is not really my hobby as much as just something I have to do. I'd rather hit the lake & fish, or go to an archery range, or hike, or camp on the weekend instead of running a marathon. But thats just me.

Frank, I'll go camping with you anytime. I love camping and hiking. If I could live in Yosemite, I would.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 11/30/2008
Hey hey hey.....Michael I am so glad you tracked me down!
9 mile long run? Oh my aching feet. That is amazing.
I am swamped at work - this is my busy season. From Oct 1-Dec 31st. But I was wondering if you were still posting this weekly thread.
Do you keep track of your cumulative miles for the year? I have been and my goal is to hit 1000 miles by Dec 31st. I am betting you have more.
I took 2 months off after I got married, so next year I am hoping to beat that.
Got to go cook dinner now.

I use the Training Log at RunnersWorld.com to track my runs. So far this year I have 1002.6 miles. I don't think I'll break 1,100 miles for the year, as I plan to take next week off after my 15K on Sunday.

That's a great start, Nick. Keep it up, buddy!
I'm off to a good start so far. I ran 9 miles Sunday, then 3 yesterday and today: 15 for the week so far.
