Most modern television - Pretty much every show on TV now is like this:
Husband: Come on, honey, I want to go to the game with the guys.
Wife: You promised to take Suzie to her recital.
Husband: You're not doing anything tonight are you?
Wife (sarcastic): Oh, no, just making your dinner and cleaning your clothes and reminding you of promises you kept which are apparently harder to stick to than meat on Lady Gaga.
[laugh track galore]
[then later....]
Husband: Well, I took Suzie to her recital.
Wife: There now that wasn't so hard, was it?
Husband: Yeah, I guess you're right.
Wife: I still love you, even though you are a complete moron.
Or like this:
Doctor: I need 7 cc's of cortizone....now!!
Other doctor: Cortizone?! This man has a hemmorage!!
Doctor: This is my floor, and I'm in charge!!
Other doctor: That doesn't mean you can accelerate the bleeding with cortizone!!
Doctor: Maybe if you were more willing to work on our personal relationship we wouldn't have this problem!!
[drama and intense music ensues]
Facebook - There were times when I liked it. Got me in touch some with people I wanted to be in touch with and all that. But the benefits are so limited. I don't want to hear about people saying they are going to the store. Or that your cat is rolling over on her back. And I don't want to see pictures of you that you took with your phone in the mirror with pouty lips!! Plus I don't want all the viruses people keep talking about that they get there.
Autotune music - You know who they are. All that digital-voice-distortion tribulation for the ears. They made fun of it during the Superbowl. Hey kids, when I was your age (and it wasn't that long ago!) singers used to do something different to produce the right sounds----they hit the notes with their OWN VOCAL CORDS!!!
Daylight Savings Time - Midwesterners may empathize with me here. It's dark out at like 4:30 on a cloudy day. But we HAVE to change the time, they say. Otherwise the kids are waiting for the bus at 7 a.m.!! God forbid we start school at 7:30. Let's make sure the working adults have as little light in their lives as possible. Let's all go vampire while we're at it and start smashing mirrors and ordering extra rare steaks. But really, I don't know why we have time zones at all. Why can't it just be Noon everywhere in the world at the same time? I had someone once tell me that was impossible because it's light out at noon, and that would cause it to be dark on the other side of the world during lunch!!
Lest I be thought a madman, is there a thread on here for "What do you love that everyone else hates?"
|
Nice summation of most TV shows...I completely agree! This is why I don't watch TV...I mean sure I have a TV...but I only use it to watch movies...if there's a show I wanna watch I can catch it on the internet or Netflix.
Re: Daylight savings time...I've found (and I've lived in a good number of States now) that it can often depend on what side of the time-zone you live...like when I was in NE, I lived on the most western part of the central time zone...which was great! But when I lived in Indiana (southern part) we didn't even switch time zones (how whack is that!?!? But I think the whole State switches now...I feel like I read that somewhere)....and here in Mass I'm on the most eastern part of EST so it gets dark at 4:30 here too. Incidentally, I don't think China uses time zones (which is shocking considering that the area is almost identical to the U.S.!!!!) - can anyone confirm this??? And Russia has a boat-load of time zones I believe. LOL.

As for the tv show The office....Unfortunately there are some really crude parts which is a massive shame. However some of it is absolutely hilarious . One of the main actors is a local lad.
Thanks for the link.......I am going to use them tomorrow at work

What about pantomimes? Now they really test my patience. A weird way to tell a story indeed. They must be hard on the actors, because they leave me speechless too.
However, if you think they're weird, then try pantaloons.
Then again, maybe these are pantomines?

 - Hello John
Battle commences soon. I hope the media are going easy on punter. I think they've gone way overboard. It was a draw afterall Although I suppose they are not used to pommy's at 517-1 (neither are we for that matter ). I think the toss is crucial tonight. Win the toss and bat...or else i fancy a fruitless toil in the field for 8 sessions at least
All the best

R& B Music - Beyonce and snoop dogg's music (yes you snoop dogg - you gonna kill me ? )...gangster rappers.....You are not cool - grow up.
WHilst I appreciate Fr.Stan Fortuna is extremely holy and has brought many to the Church and I love his order and him to bits. I do find the idea of Christian Rap personally a wee bit embarassing.
What a stupid name Snoop Dawg ...............what's worse is I liked Snoopy as a kid and he has ruined the Snoopy Brand

I agree, Snoop Dawg is a dumb name for sure.
However, Beyonce I just love. Fantastic voice.
What I hate with a passion is Opera. You know, where they climb onto a stage, dress up in costumes that make them look positively medieval, then begin to sell/tell a story by singing in Italian in really high pitched voices. Sheeeesh. I mean who knows what goes on. I get that the Italians never had TV for a goodly part of their history. I even get that in days gone by it was a mighty interesting way to tell a story and show off your high pitched voice all in one go to an appreciative Italian audience, but hey, we don't all speak Italian and the human race has devised other, better, ways of telling a story. Books, for instance. We now have books. And written in English. Beat that Opera! Opera should be confined to the dustbin of history.

I prefer Firefox to Opera. <rimshot>
I cannot stand anything having to do with Pro Basketball. Drives me around the bend.

I went to my first opera a few years ago. It was "MacBeth" and the only reason I went was because my daughter had to go for a music class she was taking at the time. I was dreading it and thought I'd be bored to death.
I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed it! I don't speak Italian either but there were lighted subtitles above the stage so it was possible to follow the story. Opera is a formalized style of singing and if you give it a try, it's possible to appreciate the talent that the singers have. I would go to another one if given the chance, as long as there were subtitles!
What I hate that everybody else seems to love are theme park rides. I can't understand how going really really fast and upside down and twisting your neck and feeling sick is something that's fun. When I was a teen I would grit my teeth and go on the rides with my friends. No teen wants to be seen as a wimp! Now, years later, I don't care what other people think about it. I just don't do it.

If that's true, I'd prefer the Chinese method! If the U.S. had one time zone, then we wouldn't have "Tonight, Monday Night Football at 8 eastern, 7 central (and 6 mountain, 5 pacific understood!). And the people in the east can have their work day be, say, 8-5. And central can work 9-6, and mountain would be 10-7, and pacific would be 11-8. So the amount of daylight remains the same for everyone, but I think it would lessen time confusion, especially in this global economy.

Ever heard of the Sydney Opera House?
How come no-one has ever built a Firefox House?
On that subject, you can use Opera, to look up Oprah Winfrey's visit to the Sydney Opera House.
Another thing I really, really hate/loathe is Ballet.
I mean, what a dumb way to tell a story. Girls dressed up in little frilly frocks, showing off their frilly little knickers. Boys dressed up in really, really tight pants. No wonder they don't sing. Judging from what the boys display, they'd only manage a squeak. Boys and girls then walk around on tip toe, like they are scared of upsetting someone, and then the boys throw the girls in the air and catch them again. They whirl and twirl and we, the audience, who have paid mega bucks to watch, are supposed to think they are telling a story. One time I went I think we were supposed to imagine the girls in their little frilly dresses showing off their little frilly knickers and the boys showing off everything, were supposed to be swans. I found that really hard to do, even when I shut my eyes. No swan I ever saw looked like that.
And they didn't even sell popcorn.

Yeah...but the problem with that would be that when I clock-out of work at 5, those on Cali-time would be missing out on 3 hours of business with me...(or I'd be missing out) - it could never work that way....trans-national, even inter-national business would be impossible. Rather, if we wanted to have one time-zone, and be able to maintain the current business day nationally, those poor Californians would just have to go to work in the dark lol And forget about Hawaii!!! They'll see some sun around noon I guess lol!
I just looked up about that China thing I mentioned. Found this on Wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_in_China
So It looks like "formally" China has one zone...but for all practical purposes, they're still broken down regionally and everyone still operates by those regional zones they lie in - *phew* - I was wondering how they pulled it off!

Re: What do you hate, that everybody else loves?
Since we are on the fine arts right now....
I hate it when people do modern versions of Shakespeare plays. I know what they are trying to accomplish, but I still hate it. The language is just wrong for modern dress. People who ought to know better do this all the time, like Kenneth Branagh.
I hate art festivals. Bunch of **** and if you go up to look at something, the "artist" is right there asking if you have any questions. Yeah, I sure do, what the heck makes you think you are an artist???
Driving. It stresses me out and everyone who rides with me thinks that all I am is a raving lunatic. I am, but not only because other drivers are complete and total IDIOTS!
There, that feels better.

Forgot one...
COMPANY CHRISTMAS PARTIES!!!!!!
I hate having to buy a dress. I hate all the small talk. I hate people pretending to get along with each other when most of what they do is stab each other in the back the rest of the year. I hate listening to the CEO or the boss stand up and wax all sentimental about all the employees and what a great year it's been. I hate buffet food!
Waste of time, money, and good cheer.
