Re: What do you hate, that everybody else loves?
I do not hate TLM, but I dislike how so many people get offended that it is no longer the Ordinary form of the Mass, and that get offended when people say they like the current NO mass better.

Readers who can't read, in general, are a pet peeve of mine. More than once I have been tempted to stand up on my pew and yell, "It's pronounced "Kul-OSH-anz"!!"
And there is no such word as "pro-fe-si ze." It's either "pro-fe-s eez" (more than one prophecy [pro'-fe-see]) or "pro-fe- sigh" (the act of making a prophecy).
The three Hebrew boys were named SHAD-rack, ME-shack, and a-BED-ne-go. Seriously, it's not that complicated. Just sound it out.
People who read the Scriptures in Church need to have and make good use of an audio Bible, so that they can hear the text being read out with the correct pronunciation - and they need to practice, and practice, and practice.

I was in a very dark place when I heard "Yahweh, I know You Are Near" and I kid you not, it helped me trust God. Likewise "Be Not Afraid." So I'm going to have a soft spot for that music in my heart till the day I die. I respect the fact that others may not care for it and that it may have certain things to be desired, but I won't put up with major snark against it. (I just avoid those discussions in other places on CAF, so I don't get my feathers ruffled or ruffle anyone else's. )
BTW, thanks to those who agreed with me about the female singers with nasal voices! I tend to prefer male singing voices in general - a female singer has to be very clear and melodic to please my fussy tastes. I do like Enya, Barbra Streisand, Julie Andrews, and Sarah MacLachlan's "Arms of an Angel" song. I liked Charlotte Church's singing, but her behavior since she became legal - no.

I'm so sorry if I offended you! I know I was a bit harsh, but that's just my musical prefference. I have no idea why I love the traditional music so much, especially since I'm only 31 years old.
Back on topic, but related to music, I'm not much on most secular music of today either, with a fiew exceptions.

I cannot stand "contemporary Christian" music that contains blasphemy.
One that stands out is "Days of Elijah" which is nice except that the chorus is "There is no god like jehovah" As Elijah would have pointed out with fire and steel, there is not God BUT Jehovah.

Scripture in fact says exactly the same thing in several places - one being Exodus 15:11 ("'Who is like to you, O LORD, among the gods? who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?") - so I doubt Elijah would have minded at all.
For similar phraseology see 1 Kings 8:23, 2 Chronicles 2:5, 2 Chronicles 6:14, Micah 7:18
In fact there is a similar sentiment in the Decalogue - straight from the mouth of God Himself:
Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me."

In fairness, there is such a word, but infrequently encountered -- One in the act of making a prophecy is one who prophesies.
However I really like a PSA on these words from Jimmy Akin's blog:
Quote:
Please Note:- Prophecy is a noun — not a verb. It is pronounced "prof-e-see" — not "prof-e-sigh."
- Prophesy is a verb — not a noun. It is pronounced "prof-e-sigh" — not "prof-e-see."
- Prophesize, also spelled prophecize, is not a word. Do not pronounce it.
Thank you.

Has anyone mentioned marzipan?? I don't know how many people like it, but it shows up in the Christmas candies every year.

Yes, but too many people pronounce it "prophesizes" or they say, "he was prophesizing" instead of "prophesies" and "prophesying" - they add an extra "z" sound that doesn't actually exist in the word.

I don't like marzipan either, unless it's on Christmas cake, and I also don't like Ferrero Rocher - it tastes like chalk, to me.

Oh, no, you didn't offend me - did you post something about that in an earlier post on this thread? It's a long thread so I confess I just posted here recently without going back through the entire thread. No harm, no foul!

The Princess Bride. It is totally overrated. I like it until they go into the fire swamp, but then...

Movies and sports on TV.
They're just too darn long!

Re: What do you hate, that everybody else loves?
In Post 1018 I railed against plastc. That horrid stuff that seems to be so loved by so many and is used to keep screwdrivers, bunk beds and even Christmas Trees germ free and fresh.
Well, today I went and bought some printer cartridges and guess what? They were sealed up in that hard plastic stuff. Whether to keep the germs out, or the freshness in, I can't figure out. What I suspect is they are wrapped up tight to frustrate me. Once again, I had to go fetch a big carving knife to get into the package. Tis surely a miracle I still have all my fingers.
I hate all this plastic. It is now confusing when I have to consult a colour chart to decide what colour rubbish bin the stuff goes in. And when you stuff it in a bin, it jumps back up at you again. Enough of this hellish stuff. I want my non-edibles in plain brown paper bags, please. I don't need germ free, ultra fresh printer cartridges.
Now just look at this photo. All this rubbish just because someone decided printer cartidges needed to be packed in thick cardboard and shrouded in airtight plastic.
These items should be included with every article wrapped in plastic.
