Default Is divorce ever acceptable?

My wife had some mental health issues and is addicted to prescription drugs. I have tried to help her, her family has tried as well as a host of Doctors/Counselors/Therapists etc. She will not help herself, I'm not sure if it even possible. Now she is unfit to be a mother and for the safety and well being of the children, I am to the point of considering divorce. The state DCFS is already involved as she attempted suicide in front of the oldest daughter. I know divorce is wrong but for the safety and well being of the children can it ever be accepted?

Kirk,
We are very sorry to hear of your marital troubles. Please be assured of our prayers for your family.

The following links should assist you in better understanding the Church's teaching regarding the sacrament of marriage and civil divorce. (The last link are for locating a Catholic counselor and seeking spiritual direction.) If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly.
