Default Exercise Support Thread Week of 12/28/2008

Good morning, everyone. It's time to start the final few days of the year, and enter into a new year. God id good, and we can rely on Him to give us the strength to workout, even when we don't feel like it. Let's start the new year with fresh goals and a renewed spirit.

My goal for this week is to run 23 miles, including an 8 mile long run. I ran 3 miles this morning to get started.

2009 is going to be the start of alot of new things here.

We just joined a gym with a kids room, so parents can work out.

Me & my wife have toyed with the idea of doing triathalons together. This year we start training some of the local mini triathalons this summer & a few 5k or 10K's.

This gym also allows kids to participate in things like the pool, open gym(shoot some hoops) & the rock climbing wall.

We already bike a lot as a family & now the kids can come to the pool while we swim laps.

The routine is still comming together. We want to hit the gym 3-4 times a week for tri training. I am also toying with the idea of making my morning routine(at home) 30 min elliptical & 30 min of taekwondo M-F. The gym would be for a mix of running, biking, swimming & some strength training. Not to mention the lesure time we are going to spend as a family biking, swiming, rock climbing etc.

I did my 8 mile run this morning, so I'm off to a good start this week.

Frank, your plans sound really exciting. You're blending healthy exercise with quality family time. What a perfect way to keep the family healthy and together!

That's all because I managed a 30 minute swim this afternoon - at long last

Only two more this week to meet my goal.

I am embarrassed to post this but my goal is to get back to 15 minutes of walking every morning, 15 at night, and find some alternative when wind is bad (asthma) or can't do it for other reasons.

That sounds like a good goal, Puzzleannie.

It's been a month since I did my proper 30 minute swim, so I'm hoping I don't lose the momentum

why be embarrassed? It really is a great goal. It's a start and every one needs to start somewhere.

That is so cool that you want to do triathalons together. What a great thing also for your kids to see.

I am kinda' angry.

And I need to forgive myself and get started again. A rock-like life style always happens this time of year. The nice warm weather is long gone and a sedentary way sets in.
To start with I am doing 15 minutes per day on the eliptical, treadmill and bike and 15 reps with free weights. Then I'll increase 5 minutes a day per machine and eventually double and triple my reps with weights.

Hopefully there will be nothing but melted butta' on the floor when I'm done.

I'll be praying for you and your endeavor.

With the combo I am finding not too much soreness as much as body fatigue.

Sun

30 min treadmill 30 min bike 25 min weights 12 laps in the pool

Mon

25 min elliptical 25 min taekwondo (at home 5:00 AM)

Tue

5:00 AM at home 25 min elliptical 25 min tkd

Gym 30 min treadmill with incline 30 min bike 25 min weights

Gonna stick to something like this and hit the mini tri's this year but, I do hear the iron man calling in a few years.

Slipped here... did stretches and abs on Monday and this morning shovelled the driveway at 6.30.

Does not help that there are so many christmas sweets around...

Have to get back on track.

Made my goal of 1000 miles this year. I managed that even taking a few months off completely. I pushed myself but did not even lose a lb!

I will try and focus on my eating in conjunction with the exercise because I am guessing the cookies I am eating are hindering progress. Though maintaining is super great - even 5 lbs less would be a gift!

Drats to the Christmas sweets. I have a box of chocolates no one wants at home - 'cept me. I want to toss them out - can't take them to the office because I am the only one in the office this week.

I can't throw out sweets either..it seems like such a waste, but if there was a bag of carrots in the frig. no one wanted, I could chuck them and never look back I'm married to a health nut, not sure how we've lasted this long, 15 years and he still puts up with me.
I really need to get healthy. It's not just about weight loss. There are a lot of medical problems that run in my family. I've lost my mother, her dad and her brother to cancer and her mother to diabetes. So mom's side doesn't look so great and then we have major heart issues and diabetes on my dad's side. Time to get off the couch and do something before it's too late!
I could really use some support. My husband is great. He has set up so many work outs for me and has tried to help me, but I don't stick with them and it makes it hard for him to want to help me, because I always stop half way through.
I really watch what the kids eat, I'm very picky about what foods they have, but while they are in eating a good breakfast, I'm in the kitchen eating cookies. I need to care about myself too. I think it's a mommy thing, everyone else comes first and I get what I get! I did eat a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast today and I'm hoping that when my son takes his nap I can go walk on the treadmill. I know I need to do it. I just start feeling sorry for myself because I have never found a workout that I like, and I've tried so many. But I guess I'll just have to suck it up and do something. I feel really badly for my husband, I'm not the 117lbs. I was when we were dating! And I feel bad for my kids too, I know I'm not setting a very good example. The holidays were hard. My husbands family is very tiny. Most of the women are around 5 feet tall, 100lbs soaking wet. I'm 5'5" and not that skinny anymore, I need to lose about 50 pounds. So I really stick out. I know they talk about me. They watch what I put on my plate. I don't usually eat when we go to things, but then I get upset and eat too much when we get home What a great way to start another new year, sad and not liking yourself
