Default Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/4/2009

Happy New Year, everyone. Welcome to our first thread of 2009. Remember, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. When we treat our bodies right, we honor God by giving Him a suitable temple for His Holy Spirit.

So, let's start the week by setting goals. My goals for the week are to run 23 miles, including an 8 mile long run, which I'm not sure I'll be able to do. I was planning my long run for today, but we have high winds blowing. So I ran 3 miles on the treadmill. If the winds die down before tomorrow morning, I'll do my long run then. But if not, I won't be able to do a long run this week, as my schedule the rest of the week won't allow for it. So, we'll see how it goes.

You're too good, Michael, meeting your goals so well.

I ended up one swim short last week. Ok, that's the past, so for this week...

In theory 4 swims should be simple, but I don't know when our campus will have time on the computers at main campus to get our reports done, so maybe I'll say 3, because work may take one afternoon up.

I don't want to start anything too new as I'm going to Amsterdam in less than 2 weeks, so just more careful eating now, oh, I know, my water consumption has gone again, so let's start with one litre a day this week (oh I'm too tired to convert that to 'American')

Happy New Year Michael & Vivienne1
Last week was a time of attitude adjustment and warming up and a prelude to more serious sweating. Today I'll start working on my goal of running 21 miles on the treadmill this week. When the weather warms up a bit here I'll take it outdoors.

Last 2 weeks was a lot of non-compliance. Anyways got back on track and did 100 crunches and some stretches this morning.

My goal is to do 100 abs and stretches daily and include some cardio. And to eventually watch the calorie intake as well.

Default Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/4/2009

Well i did 9 loads of laundry on Saturday. All up one floor, and down a coridor a block long it seems. A good 35 trips. Then today, i took all the xmas stuff down and took it all to the farm, cleaned the house and then got the children ready for a new school day starting tommorrow.

No it was not miles, but it is actually more activity than i have been used to. My friend had me try some of her arthritus meds, and the ankle pain and swelling went away, allowing me much more ability to be mobile.

Heres the pincher that happened two days ago, and i ask for prayers for my 10 year old on this one. She was at her friends house playing the Wii Fit. It assesses your weight height and age stuff (i am assumeing) and it labeled my little one smack dab in the middle framework for being fat.

She is my one child that has some weight on, but not a lot. She is THE only one who LOVES vegetables, fruit, and very little junk. So i have always wondered why, of the three children i have, why she would have weight on...but to further this story.

She told her dad, and he berated her...although he said it was just jokeing, she was silent and went on with her day. I met her in the hall, and asked her how she was doing, and her eyes filled with tears, and she sobbed, "Mommy, i dooo make good choices with food, why did daddy get mad at me, and the game call me fat?"

All i could do is KNOW, from the debths of my soul, how she felt. All of my childhood, from the age of about 14 on, was the same. All i know is that for every diet i did try, it got worse.

The only hope is to eat correctly, and excercise...no fad diet or pills for her. I asked her if she wanted mamma to help her plan meals, and keep track for her, and see what we can come up with. The wettest, soppiest, eyes (and nose) looked up from my wet shirt, "will you ma, i will listen if you explain to me what is right and what is wrong!"

I told her i would help her become more healthy, but not to diet. Diets are not safe, they take weight away, at the expence of another part of your body...so it is temperary.

She's ten...i want her to do what is best, but still be a child.
Societies immage is not what i want for her. She loves sports, but not competitive. She is more creative, musical, and a natural little mother...but i want this to last a lifetime...eating correctly.

So my new years resolution...albeit late...is to teach and guide my daughter, and help eachother...but to remember, keep it light, she is a child.

Lana

Did my abs and stretches as well as some walking.
By the end of today will have walked 2miles.

I beg pardon, that I do not read the thread most days, just post ....as that is the only thing that keeps me accountable

Hi Rammy, Sunshine007, Gywn!
I have been going for 6 hours cleaning up after holiday traffic. The fridge is cleaned out and restock with ordinary food.
My legs and abs are a bit sore. With some stretching and warmups I'll be good to go.

Praise God! The winds subsided around 3 AM this morning, so I was able to get up and go out for my long run. It was cold out, but that's OK. I'd rather cold than wind.

Lana, what a beautiful story about your daughter. She sounds like she has a good heart. God bless her.

Well the earlylight sunlight find you looking like a fright sight
Steep grade up ahead slow me down makin’ good time
Gotta keep rollin
Those running shoe soles slappin in good tempo
Keeping perfect rhythm with the song on the radio-o
Gotta keep rollin

Ooh I’m running my life away, looking’ for a healthier way, for me
Ooh I’m running my life away, looking for a sunny day

Well the food ads drool me
Tried to talk me into a bite said I wouldn’t be sorry
Said that it would allay me
Hey lay down – crunch up and back – forget the creamy toffee
Head down - back up - crunch me – battling down temptations
Lookin’ for redemption

Ooh I’m crunching my life away, looking for a tighter waist, for me
Ooh I’m crunching my life away, looking for a sunny day

Everyone looks like they are being dilligent about setting new year goals. Excellent.

Same 'ol goals. weights 4 mornings a week and to clear 30 miles a week or more on the treadmill. This place is not outdoor friendly.

I really enjoy the folks at the gym in the morning before work vs the evening folks. I find the morning folks are engaging and chatty as they work out and tend to be genuinely happier ( at least at my gym). Wonder why that is?
