How can we be modestly dressed when we are swimming? Are bikinis acceptable?

Actually, this is something I've always wondered too. I'd be interested in seeing the answer to this.

Personally, I wear a one piece "tank." Of course, some of them may show a bit too much skin. I don't think that we need to go back to when a woman's body was completely covered. But I've seen some swim suits that were "barely" there. Just use caution.

Personally, I prefer the 2 piece tankinis ... it's much, much easier if you need to use the restroom during your day at the beach.

Throw a coverup on when you're not actually swimming. Your skin will also thank you for that.

I've always been self-concious of showing too much skin. I will wear a 2 piece swim suit, but the top has to be long enough to reach almost my belly button. And I wear swim shorts on top of the bottom piece. It's not "fashionable" bit it's psychologicly comfortable enough for me to wear it

but i get what you mean, it is honestly impossible to find nice decent swimmers today. but lucky for me, im not really a beach person so i havent really kept up to date wif swim wear!

It's impossible..... I can remember being 12 years old, far too young to understand anything about sex, yet I went home from the public pool and darn near "wore the little thing out" before supper! As I matured, I understood what was causing me to do that. The pool was an incredible source of lust for me.

Short of having separate swimming pools for males and females, I don't even have the foggiest solution to the problem!

I think Speedo maked a specialized "burka" for Muslim women while at the pool. Maybe that's the fix.

Answer. You cant.
Every man or woman is immodestly dressed on a normal western beach or in a swimming hall according to certain individuals.
Go swimming in the middle east and you will see many women wearing headcovering as well as covering their whole body in a dark suit in the water. these ladies will feel "naked" without it all covered. And the men will be easily aroused at the sight of just a little bit of skin. If you go to a Japanese spa-resort you will see a whole colony of naked individuals who are there to bathe and not to watch other peoples private parts. They are not embarassed but feel like adam and eve in the garden.
Going to an american beach you will see all kinds of cultures mixed. You will meet people who have been raised to think that a neck or ancle is sexually arousing and people who think a bikini is nothing but normal and not arousing any improper feeling whatsoever in the spectator. Its all about culture, about how you have been raised to think and feel. I know this because I have gone through changes myself and read and talked to many women about it.
Modesty is a relative and all I can say is that you should wear something that makes you feel comfortable.
I dont feel comfortable in a bikini because I have a feeling from the inside that makes me want to hide. I am not saying this is the true or "correct" way to dress.. only that it works for me to cover more than many others in my culture, whom I however would not dream of critizising.
So, wear what makes you feel comfortable.
By the way.. burkas dont work.. what works is self-discipline, good upbringing, self respect and respect for others as human persons, no sexual taboos, and admitting that females and males both long for sexual intimacy and are equally capable of being aroused.

In concept, it's that simple. In practice, good luck. You can't stop men from lusting after you. You CAN do moderate due diligence to avoid inviting them to it.

If you have the choice between between a bikini and a more modest one piece, what would be your reason for choosing the bikini? Your REAL reason deep down inside.

Bikini's are not practical for enjoying swimming or water sports as they can come off easily. A one piece give you the same freedom of movement without the worry of it falling off if you jump around.

I women are really honest, the real reason why most women choose a bikini is because they WANT men to look at them or they WANT to show off their bodies.

Enticing men to look at your body (unless it's your husband) is both mean and sinful. (It's a sin of pride.) Men are visually stimulated. So when women prance around scantily clad, it's like dangling a steak in front of a hungry dog. And purposely tempting your "brother" is also a sin.

If you care about the spiritual health of the men around you, you will respect this area where they have weakness and cover up.

So, to answer your question as to HOW you can dress modestly when you are swimming the answer is this:

Choose a bathing suit (most likely a one piece) that covers your body as much as possible without restricting your movement or enjoyment of the water. You can also wear a cover up over your suit when you are not actually IN the water. That will also protect your skin as well and THAT is a good thing too.

I have two of these. They serve two purposes. As a survivor of melanoma they shield me from the sun without use of chemicals. The other is they are modest, dry quickly and easy to swim in. I don't use the cap .

They are also good for trail biking and playing in the yard with the kids.

This normally applies only if the woman is reasonably fit and attractive. If she is not, you might as well be dangling bicycle in front of the dog. He will have no interest. This is not meant to be uncharitable, but a reality of nature and a fact of life.
