Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
Welcome to a new week, and a new thread. It's time to set our goals for the week. May our Lord bless our efforts this week.
My goal is to run 23 miles, including an 8 mile long run. I started with a 3 mile run this morning. It's very windy here, so I couldn't do my long run today. I'll have to try again tomorrow or Tuesday.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
Always - May God bless our efforts.
Thirty miles in a week and 600 crunches is my goal. I walked off 2 pounds last week with no diet change. That seems about right.
Give a little bit
Give a little bit of your sweat to me
Give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my sweat to you
Theres so much that we need to share
So send a smile and show you care
I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my time for you
So give a little bit
Give a little bit of your time to me

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
You see it all around you
Good bodies gone bad
And usually it’s too late when you realize what you had
And my mind goes back to an exercise geru I knew some years ago,
Who told me,
Just hold on loosely, but don’t let go
If you work too heavily,
You’re gonna lose control
Your body needs breaks in between then
And a whole lot space to breathe in
It’s so darn easy, when your determinations are such
To overwork it, to sweat it out too much
And my mind goes back to an exercise geru I knew some years ago,
Who told me,
Just hold on loosely, but don’t let go
If you work too heavily,
You’re gonna lose control
Your body needs breaks in between then
And a whole lot space to breathe in
Don’t let your efforts slip away
Overworkin’ fool
Don’t let self absorbtion get in the way
Yeah, yeah, yeah

One of the deacons at our church gave a beautiful homily recently. He brought out an old beaten-up metal bowl and a little hammer-looking thing. He had the altar server hold the gavel while he held the bowl. He told the server to pretend to be God and to hit the bowl with the gavel. He told us to listen to the sound it made. He hit it and it made a sound, but nothing special. He said do you know why it didn't sound good? Because I was holding too tightly to the bowl. But he said watch now when I don't hold on so tightly, He asked the server to hit it again. It made THE most beautiful sound you could imagine! He said do it again. And he did. Same sound. He said if we just let go of things, don't hold on too tightly and just let God work in us, He will make beautiful music in us too. I thought that was awesome. I'm sure I haven't done justice to his homily with this post, but it was actually quite a beautiful thing. Written by rudytoo72 CAF member

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
Last time I swam there was a sneaky wind blowing and the water was a little cooler than normal. Now the sore throat I developed the next day has become flu like, with a congested chest. The cough mixture that really works wonders on this cough was nearly finished and I had to go more than a day without it. Now I'm really not feeling at all great and I'm flying to Amsterdam on Friday
Holding loosely will mean NO exercise goals this week. BUT all the more reason to eat carefully
So that's my goal, watch everything that goes in my mouth, get lots of sleep, drink lots of water.

Thanks, Beautiful, the soup is delicious.
Tamiflu or Relenza (never heard of either) hmmm, I doubt I'd get them here anyway. I'm relying on hot lemon medication with pain killers. Oh, and your soup!

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
I have a feeling I am going to be spending A LOT of time at the gym for a while. My official goal is to go to the gym every morning for cardio along with 3 other times for weights. My unofficial goal is to spend as much time at the gym as possible in order to avoid the mindless eating I have gotten into.

Tkdnick, workin’ out is one way to slow down mindless eating plus you'll stay fit. I found that cutting way back on carbs for about 24 hours helps slow me stop the vicious cycle of incessant picking. Popping a few peanuts into my mouth between breakfast/ lunch and lunch/dinner works wonders to keep my blood sugar level steady. This prevents wild cravings in between meals.
I’m committed to changing the landscape in my refrigerator and freezer. Tonight I stocked it with lowfat string cheese and yogurt. I’m trying light soymilk instead of skim milk – ½ the calories of skim milk. I’m already in the habit of keeping a large pack of organic mixed greens. Sprayed on salad dressing is convenient and tasty enough. Anyway – I am going to clean the ‘frigerator tomorrow. It has been so long since I did that task – I expect to find some science experiments growing out of control.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
I would like to loose some weight. I'm battling ongoing illness and have gained about thirty or so lbs of undesired weight. It's hard to exercise when sick. I am trying though. I have lost about five lbs but it keeps coming back. At least I'm no longer gaining.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 1/11/2009
Hi everyone--happy new year! I have been power walking diligently...you'll be happy to know, eh hem Sargeant Michael. lol
I really have gotten back into the swing of things...and hope to begin running next week. Emphasis on hope.
JK06--Not sure what your illness is, but pilates, and yoga are great ways to stay flexible, and lose weight, if you are not feeling up to a fuller cardio workout. I have friends that only do yoga and they are pretty toned. I am sorry you're ill, I'll pray that you can find a good program that is comfortable for you, and stick with it. Good luck, and post here often. It's a great way to stay motivated...once you commit to coming here though, Michael W. will seek you out if you don't show up for a few weeks.
Kidding, Michael...you're the best!

Welcome JK06, I do wish the weight I lose would not keep finding me, while other things I lose stay lost.

Very true. About 15 years ago I was unable to do anything approaching cardio and my doctor recommended a programme of stretching (pilates-type), really did the job.
Whatevergirl is right, we do support and encourage each other and Michael Welter does come looking if you go missing for a couple of weeks (Its done with great kindness though, not with the stick of chastisement )

Have any of you seen the movie Entrapment?
I assumed that the bank robbery sceen was similar to the entire pilates sceen...ya know, balance your entire body on only one butt cheek?
What am i hearing now...and possibly can it help where strength and endurance are restricted by pain or the size impeedment i face.
Curious?

Oh, Lana, *balance your entire body on only one butt cheek*! I love it! Hmmm, getting serious now, if I look at my butt cheeks, balancing myself on one is quite possible.
Look, I don't want to be offering any medical advice, but the exercses came from Rosemary Conley (Googe her name), I find her eating plans can be a bit restrictive, and honestly prefer a way of life eating plan, like Weight Watchers, that teaches you how to balance daily intake for the rest of your life. But I did very well on the exercises, just leaving out the running, jumping, cardio sections.

Sharon,
Glad to hear your feet are holding. Was wondering since you had not been posting here.
With the miles I have run in 2008, I am just about to Myrtle beach. I'll be to Florida in a few months if I keep my routine up. We'll have lunch and do some shopping before I turn around and start the run all the way back to NY.
