Re: Any Catholic knitters or crafters in here???
Hi, I do cross-stitch, and other forms of embroidery. At the moment I'm working on a cross-stitch picture of a tiny pair of baby's feet for my cousin, who has just had his first baby. When it's finished, I'm going to attach it to the front of a photo album for them.
I also like crochet, but find knitting difficult for some reason.
By the way, I went to an exhibition in London a few weeks ago on Byzantium , and one of the works there was an ivory carving of the Annunciation, and right in the corner behind Our Lady is a basket of knitting worked in the most exquisite detail!

Hi,
I do cross stitch sometimes, but I am into mostly making jewelry. But I have done some very detailed corss stitch in the past. But the eyes are not what they used to be.

Re: Any Catholic knitters or crafters in here???
Hi, I'm Catholic and I knit - a lot. I also do some needle felting and sewing, but I LOVE to knit. I make small projects ususally, because I am into instant (almost) gratification and I like to make socks, hats, felted bags, stuff like that. I would like to be able to join a local knit group but I haven't found one in Lma, Ohio. Maybe I'll have to institute a charity knit group or something. Stay well, S.

I knit. .. passionately and incessantly, even more than I post on these threads (hard to believe for those who've put up with me for nearly 5 years here ) but true.
In fact, it's time to get back to that pirate hat. . .and scarf. . .and there's a tea cosy I've been dying to try with little bees on it. Or maybe that Fleur-de-Lis pattern?

Yes, I've been crocheting for years. I've tried to knit in the past, but I'm so much more comfortable with crochet. I'm also thinking about joining the prayer shawl group in my parish at some point.

Good to hear! I was crocheting since I was about 5 and I taught myself how to knit a few years back. I really enjoy it and it wasn't too hard to learn. You should give it a try.

I have so many cross stitch kits. I have just made a little dog. The kind they have for kids to make. It was very simple but I liked it so my mom got like 30 or more cross stitch kits (really hard ones) even one of Mother Theresa, that I have been scared to death to touch. Any suggestions?

I do a lot of cross-stitch, big and small projects!! I don't do a lot of kits, I have lots of magazines and patterns and just buy my own floss. I would look through all of your kits and start with one that isn't too hard. Is the little dog you made, your very first cross-stitch? Some times they look harder then they really are. Once you get going on it, it gets easier. I have done some that I thought I was going to be crosseyed when I was finished.
I stitched a deer for my father-in-law for Christmas a few years ago, he's a hunter. It was a beautiful picture of a buck standing in a field, with the woods just behind him. It was a fall picture, so everything was shades of brown and tan!! I had no idea that there were that many shades of brown!!! But, I worked hard and got it done and it really is pretty!!
I stitch Christmas ornaments and baby bibs as gifts. And I've done a lot of larger pictures. I'm making one for myself right now, which doesn't happen very often! My dear husband says I have to finish it before I can start on anything for anyone else!
I also love to scrapbook!!! I also stamp and make cards!
I enjoy doing all different kinds of crafts!!
I get together with 5 other ladies every Monday, we take turns being the hostess, and we work on our crafts, mostly scrapbooking, but with the snowy weather, cross-stitch is much easier to carry!

Okay. I will give it a try They just look so scary! Does it take a LONG time to finish one? It seems that way, or does it get better as you do them?

I have been obsessed with socks lately. Have you ever tried making one using 2 circular needles? I am going to try that method next. I have one more scarf and sock to make before I can try it though.

It depends on the size and how much time you have to work on it. A 8x10 or larger piece will take me about 3 months to do, depending on how complicated it is, working on it in the evenings after the kids go to bed.
It does get easier!! I never thought I'd be doing the pictures that I make, but I love to see a picture appear on a blank piece of fabric and then you back stitch it and it really comes to life!
I've been stitching for 19 years now, so I can move pretty quick, but it's my way to unwind! Don't give yourself a time limit. Just relax and enjoy it!!

I'm a knitter and love to make socks. However, I prefer to use the double-pointed needles, because for me it's all about tradition!

Re: Any Catholic knitters or crafters in here???
I have an awful lot of UFOs (unfinished objects)!
My trouble is I see a new pattern or kit and I want to get started on it straight away! I'm persevering with the baby feet though, because I'm going to see the new baby at the weekend and want to give it to the new parents.
That Mother Teresa kit - I saw that advertised a couple of years ago it looks really nice. I have a Madonna and Child kit that I'm itching to get started on!
