Default Exercise Support Thread Week of 2/1/2009

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to the new week. As usual, let's start the week by setting goals. I'm starting a gradual ramp up of my long runs in preparation of running a half marathon in June. So my goal this week is to run 24 miles, including a 9 mile long run, which I plan to do today.

Ok, here's for being realistic, having heard of all the extra meetings after hours this week, getting to swim twice will be an acchivement! But I did start a new exercise routine this morning, concentrating on firming, flexibilty and inch loss - this I can do at home before work, every morning.

I'm going to try to do 1 mile everyday on the treadmill. I started off well, but ended up with a cold and couldn't get much done last week, but it's a new week and time to move forward!

I just got back from my long run. It made it 9 miles without stopping or walking.

Good job Gwyn!

I ran 3 miles on the treadmill this morning. I'm working from home all week, and my legs don't like sitting at a desk all day. I need to get up and walk around the house every so often.

Great job so far everybody!

So, it looks like my exercise goals are going to need to be changed a little for the next few months. I'm still planning to get in the gym and do at least a few miles/week, but between not feeling so well, and the snow that's falling again today, I'm not sure how much I'll get done this week.

wow slow thread so far. Michael....9 miles without stops is amazing.

I went to the gym this morning with a dryer sheet stuck to my buttocks! I think I need to step up the "once over" before I leave the house.

Good thing I am old enough not to care and be mortified.

On a different note - I lost 10 lbs in the last few weeks just eliminating sweets and pizza and watching my portion sizes.

Good work everyone.

Wow Michael, 9 miles!

Jrabs, good job on the weight loss and commitment to smaller portions and no sweets.

Did stretches and abs this morning
By end of day will have done 1.5 miles

Need the will power to not put junk past my lips

The stretches and the mileage is wonderful. ahhh the food part -
It is hard to resist, isn't it. But you can do this. For example, I ran my little heart out last year daily. 1000 miles - did not lose a lb.
Not until this year have I adjusted my eating did I notice it was helping. I just eat more fruit when I need the sugar. But you can certainly do this!

I guess I am finding that just because I may have run/walked 5 miles one day does not mean I now can eat 4 cookies and balance it all out.

I know....just have to set my mind to doing it

Lost 40 lbs 2 years ago....by working out and controlling intake (1200 cals/day)
I bring less food in to work and then when I go home just raid the pantry
Thought I would start Feb 1 ...oh well
Do have an issue that I need to eat every couple hours because of blood sugar dropping driving me crazy (have PCOs) but I need to make better choices

Oh man - I am really bad at raiding the pantry also while I am cooking dinner. Here is what I do now - either eat an apple on the drive home - or I make a small bowl of oatmeal or cereal and eat that while I am cooking. It sure beats Doritos.

I also have to watch my blood sugar. I eat every 1.5 hours or I feel rotten. It is about the choices though and if you have already done it once before, you can do it again.

So you missed a day - today is only the 2nd and you can do this!

Gee, some people will do anything to get out of a hard workout for a few months
The best advice I can give you is to keep doing some kind of exercise, the whole way through your pregnancy, it really helps with labor and delivery if you are in good shape!! Talk to your doctor about what they would be okay with you doing. I did a lot of walking, swimming is great when you get bigger!! You feel so light when you are in the water!! I also had some preggo workout tapes that I did! I'm so excited for you!!

Now, as for me...I'm sick again!! I had a sinus infection/ ear fluid thing last week. This week, our 7 year old has a terrible cold and I got it. I'm hoping the rest of the family doesn't get it!! I feel like my head is being squeezed in a vice and someone is sitting on my chest!! So I don't know how much exercising I'll be getting done this week, but I will be drinking lots of fluids and eating oranges, so that's good!
