Exercise Support Thread Week of 2/8/2009
Happy New Week, everyone. Welcome to the second week of February. With Lent fast approaching, I'm thinking that it might be a good year to make a lenten sacrifice that healthy. I don't know what that will be, but we shall see.
It's time to set goals for the week. My goal will be to run 24 miles, including a 9 mile long run. I was hoping to do the long run today, but it's raining. The rain is supposed to go through tomorrow, so I may have to wait 'til Tuesday to do that long run.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 2/8/2009
This week:
I'm not even going to try to get to swim - meetings tomorrow and Tuesday after school, Wednesday I have to go and pay my car licence renewal (I believe its a long process - about 2 hours ), Thursday I have to pack and get some sleep and a 2am on Friday I have to be at the airport. Its an 8 hour flight, followed by 5 hours drive and what'll be happening over the weekend I'll wait and see.
So I'll just go on with the exercises which I do before work and keeping track of what I eat.
Now I'm sure I'm on the new thread too

What a week, Vivienne! I wonder if you can do laps around the airplane. When I was on a 12 hour flight to Europe, I was able to walk laps around the plane. It was a little challenging because people were standing in the aisles. But I couldn't be still that long.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 2/8/2009
Hi michael and everyone;
Hey, I was wondering Michael...how do you stay hydrated during your long runs? When I was an avid runner (and trying to get back to that!) I carried two bottles of water...but, I now see those "tubes" that you can sip, carrying the water or whatever, in a pouch around your waist. Cyclists use these too. Just curious, if you use something like that?
Well, not sure what to make my goals this week. I am still not feeling my best...recovering from sinus infection, and the antibiotic is just making me soooo tired! I am better, so I'm thinking at least a few power walks of 2 to 3 miles each, I could probably muster. I also have company coming in on Friday, so not sure how that will affect my workouts. I might just have to get up early like Michael...to get my workout in.
Have a good week, everyone.

Sharon, I have an Access Groove pack from Ultimate Direction. I like it because the bottle is tilted for easy access. And I carry my driver's license and cell phone in the other pouch. I pace myself with the water, I take a swig every half mile. At that pace, it will last 11-12 miles. Here's a picture of it.

That is a nice looking running pack.
I wouldn't mind a drinking tube attachment on my bottle. My current setup wastes too much water down the front of me.
My goal this week is to increase my exercise intensity and to shorten my time. I want to work everything 'til I can't do another.

Ooooh, I like that! Once I get back in the running groove again, I would like to carry something like that...even for shorter distances, it's a pain carrying a bottle.

Americans can’t stop eating. That’s the conclusion of a federal survey that estimates 6 in 10 Americans are overweight, more than 1 in 4 obese. The conclusion: too many of us consume too much and exercise too little.

That is alota' overweight people!
Scooter has a really good techno song called 'Move your @**.
It should become USA's new theme song.

I just checked the Ultimate Direction web site, and couldn't find it there, so I'm not sure it's made anymore. But if you Google it, you could probably find a few retailers that still have it. I used to carry a bottle before I got this pack, and, yes, it was a pain. That was my motivation to get this pack.

Water? Huh! I never would have thought of putting water in there.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 2/8/2009
Michael, I like your water holder. That would be handy for biking too. I hate to have my water bottle stuck to my bike. Really bothers me because it is awkward for me to access.
I am a big drinker. Predisposed to kidney stones developing and the hydration is a big part of keeping them under control.
Hope you get a dry spell so you can run outside.

It looks like the storm that came in last night is moving out now. The forecast says no more rain until Thursday. So I'm gonna plan my long run for tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm keeping up with my 3 miles/day on the treadmill.
