You know, that's a disturbing image. Why not just leave it as the usual "pigs/trough" metaphor?

Disturbing, yes. Although I think the same image is evoked in scripture on occasion, and also in Shakespeare. And I am reminded of the quote from Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump, when he is quite drunk and out of control, and tells Forrest he's living off the government t*t. A phrase that one sometimes hears among both veterans and bureaucrats.

Yes, the "Adopt A Breast" Program is sure to catch on in households with teenaged daughters. And to think my parents wasted their money on those starving kids in Africa when I was in high school instead of investing in a nice pair of breasts for me...

Cruelty in culture when the world is a plastic vulture and you have no private being what with all the eyes that see in; Stem cell sellings adn abortions and the cognitive distortions that get on my back and ride me for the sky will no longer hide me for I'm standing on some pavements midst the government enslavements and I'm screaming on the inside while I'm painting up my skinside for the bosses grey approval and awaiting my removal from a planet with a quota pushing me out of the boat a little at a time and I can speak without expressing too much worry and distress in but it only seems to work if I can rhyme. Something like that.

Yes, this is a horrible sentiment but is it enough to leave the Church that you have loved up until that point?
all reasons to leave are poor ones.. .except maybe the reason that... hmm... well, ignorance is the only valid excuse.. I was ignorant of the teachings of the Church even though raised Catholic... but once i knew the teachings (history).. well, i now have no excuse... but every now and then something happens in my life that makes me think about "leaving"... even though i only think such thoughts for about a minute or two...
the terirble conduct of Catholics is the main and now that i think about it ONLY reason i ever think about .. possibly leaving..
i think the remark he heard was that he hoped MLK would die (@ that point he'd only been shot & they weren't sure..).
i think it was one of those "last straw" things.. and i can understand Thomas' feelings... I have been so upset on a few occassions that i thoght the Church was not "Christian enough"... and you know... it's NOT...
but then neither are those other ones.. .and i know that the Church is the one Christ established... One should know this if only because it is the only one going back to the time of Christ...
none others can claim that... and if the RC Church is the ONE... why go to any other... much less START another... as many malcontents do...

wow.. that ought to send some good messages to her daughter...
messages like: I don't exactly like you the way you are..
and: maybe this will make you more attractive to the opposite sex...
Re: What really irritates the crud out of you (pet peeves?) about the world today?
Illiteracy.
Innumeracy.
Ignorance in general.
Incuriosity.
Bigotry.
The impending Death of Print.
Fear of that Big Bad World (If I survived it the very hard way, so can anyone with a warm and honest nature - believe it or don't.)
On the plus side, I have been noticing that adults, and even older adolescents, are making far more of a point of kindness and politeness, even in (perhaps especially in) hard neighborhoods. I see far more welcoming attitudes between people of all flavors becoming far more common than they were not so long ago - hooray for that!

(that's always a good one... )
From what I understand it was the daughter pushing for it, not the parents. And, as I mentioned previously, she really looked just fine the way she was. Maybe she was reading too many glamour magazines.

That's a big one. Also the declining national attention span.
Can't read long paragraphs anymore.
Heck, I can't even write long paragraphs anymore.
(On a similar note, I was in a suburban public library the other day. Now, I'm old enough to recall times when going to a library meant you saw a lot of people sitting around reading books.
It suddenly hit me that nearly everybody there was sitting at a PC monitor!)

1. Everything is sexualized. Even M&Ms are having sex now--anyone seen the latest commerical with the male M&Ms drooling over the female M&Ms (and yes I mean the chocolate candy!)
2. Text messaging
3. Facebook & all other social networking sites
4. Talking before/during/after Mass
5. Blogging--it seems like a giant exercise in narcissism.

I can remember wood desks, writing out your name and the date ont he card,a nd hushing. I think it still ought to be that way. The one at the church is still like that and I love it.
