Favorite Quotations
Hello Everybody,
I am something of a collector of quotations, I have about 40 pages of them stored up on my hard drive. I've hit something of a dry spell in my collecting. Hoping that you all could help me get some great new quotations I thought that everybody could post their favorite quotations and a brief line about why they like it. I'll start:
You pronounced your words as if you refuse to acknowledge the existence of either shadow or evil. But would you ponder this question: what would your good do if evil didn't exist, and what would the earth look like if all the shadows disappeared? After all, shadows are cast by things and people. Here is the shadow of my sword. But shadows also come from trees and from living beings. Do you want to strip the world of all the trees and living things just because of your fantasy of enjoying naked light? You're stupid. –Woland –The Master and Margarita
I like this quotation because it comes the closest to explaining to me why the world is the way that it is. It also emphasizes the need for darkness, evil and pain, so that we can recognize light, good and beauty when we see them.
Ciao,
JRB

Re: Favorite Quotations
The Master and Margarita. Wow. I haven't read that book since university.
My quote:
"Use every man after his desert and who shall 'scape whipping?"
--Hamlet
I like this one because it "keeps it real." People always whine about their rights, what they deserve, etc, but what we all deserve is a just good whipping. All of us. We are all lost without the grace of God, and Hamlet keeps it real here. The only thing we DESERVE is death.

Here's mine-
"Human frailty is primarily manifest in the most intimate relationships and wounds most deeply those whom we are to love most fully." ~ Michael Duggan, The Consuming Fire.
