Default Confused! Rosary during Lent

I heard/read somewhere we are to pray the Sorrowful Mysteries throughout the Lenten season, but EWTN (I pray my morning Rosary along with Fadda Mitch) has run the regular mysteries all along, except for this Monday, which was the Sorrowful.

Sooooo confused. Is this a tradition, a suggestion, or what?

The rosary is a private devotion, so as such you can pray whatever you wish whenever you wish (you can even pray five decades on the same mystery if you like).

I presume there are numerous ideas for varioius times of the year, so just pray what your heart is telling you to pray and don't worry - there is no rule/suggestion I know of to pray only the sorrowful during Lent.

Last I heard was this:

Joyful - Monday and Saturday
Sorrowful - Tuesday and Friday
Glorious - Wednesday and Sunday
Luminous - Thursday

This is only a suggestion; we are all free to pray any of the mysteries any day.

The custom is usually to pray the Sorrowful on Sunday, just as during Advent one prays the Joyful on Sunday.

I always do the Sorrowful Mysteries everyday during Lent-with the exception of St. Joseph's Day (March 19) and Annunciation Day (March 25, unless it falls during Holy Week/Easter, then on the transferred date), when I say the Joyful Mysteries.

Of course, I do this privately.

On Sundays, when the Rosary is said at the TLM chapel I attend, it's the Sorrowful Mysteries for Lent.

It's each person's individual call....

I have a little rosary booklet published in 1954 which says that the sorrowful mysteries may be prayed every day of Lent.

There are no laws broken. You are not toast. You are blessed for saying the rosary. Don't worry.

*whew*

Thanks, PK. I guess when EWTN threw in a Sorrowful last Monday it really threw me for a loop. Otherwise, they've followed the 'normal' schedule so that's what I did, too.

As of Jan. 20 this year, (can you make the connection?) I have made it my life to pray the rosary everyday. I have even now memorized the entire rosary, which was one reason before Jan. 20 that I didn't pray it everyday. Now I can pray it anytime. I pray the normal suggested days as mentioned above. I just pray that all Catholics start praying it EVERY day.

Every Rosary increases Mary’s power to crush the head of the Serpent and to destroy his evil power in the world.

“Pray the Rosary every day in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary to obtain peace in the world . . . for she alone can save it.” (Our Lady—July 13, 1917)

“When you pray the Rosary, say after each mystery: ‘O Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those who have most need of your mercy.' " (June 13, 1917)

You know, it did take me quite a while to memorize some of the prayers and the order in which to pray them.

A year or two before I swam the Tiber a friend sent me a cassette and later a CD with the Rosary prayers, and later I began watching the EWTN Holy Land Rosary.

You can count me in as someone else saying the rosary.

I am a cradle Catholic and I was never spiritual when I was younger, but now I am finding myself drawn this Lent to saying the rosary more and more. I have found some mp3's thru itunes for all 4 of the mysteries so each day I can choose which rosary to say. I am finding comfort in saying the rosary, more than I thought I ever would.

I like Father Mitch too and have been watching and praying for a year. It is on at 6:30 am here so I get up and pray and then go to Mass sometimes and then eat breakfast.
I recorded it so if it is ever gone I will still have it.
That is a good idea for a tape, I have an MP3 so I need to put it on. I have a CD I could use to put in my computer library and then transfer to my MP3. Have you ever done this?

There are many CD's of the Rosary but one that I have is by Gretchen Harris (06)
She prays (responds ) with four sepperate priests each a mystery.

Pray with Gretchen Harris
as the Rosaries are led by
Fr. Dermot Prior
Msgr. Paul Dotson
Fr. Raymond Mallett, OFM CONV.
and Fr. Freddie Chua
the last one is Phillipino
She has some other nice music too.
You know the Luminous just came out in 2002 from John Paul II they are my favorite.
Bless you keep praying

I have this sweet rosary that I got for my CCD kids, and on all the "our Father" beads it has the mysteries. It suggests that the Sorrowful mysteries are said on Tuesdays and Fridays and Sundays during lent. Glorious on Wednesdays and Sundays Easter to Advent. Luminous on Thursdays. Joyful Modays and Saturdays and Sundays during advent, (and Epiphany to lent). But like people have said this is a private devotion and so if you feel like you need to meditate on the Sorrowful mysteries then I say go ahead and do that.

This is why I am very grateful to my parents who said the rosary as a family for a long time while I was growing up. Now the only prayer I don't know by heart is the Apostles Creed. (Shocking I know.) But I always add a few lines from the Nicean Creed when saying the Apostles Creed.

It also confused me when that tape said ALL the mysteries with each decade. 'The agony in the garden, the annunciation, the resurrection, etc).

I was like, @___@ 'Which one goes where?'
