Question Hospice Care in Atlanta area.. urgent.

Does anyone know of a Catholic or non-denom Christian Hospice facility in the Atlanta area?

A friend of mine just called me and asked me if I knew of a place. Sadly, I didn't. She told me that a couple she knows is looking for a place for their daughter. The daughter is in a coma, and my friend says.. the facility where she is now.. is going to put her out;.. "because she is living too long" Her parents are obviously desperate for a place for her.

Thank you. Hope to get some responses.

God bless.
(Moderators.. if this type of question isn't permitted.. I apologize. I did a hasty search for a place I could post this.. because of the urgency of the situation. If you need to lock it.. we understand).

My friend is going to call the Chancery Office.. to see if they can direct her. Thanks anyway.

Please pray for this poor girl. This could be any of us.. comatose and being kicked out of a facility.. "for living too long".

What is happening in medicine.. when this kind of brutality is permitted? May God have mercy on us.

Hi MarieVeronica,

I am so sorry to hear of this terrible situation. I have no personal contacts in Atlanta to ask, however I did some searching on the web and found these resources:

St Mary's Hospice

Peachtree Christian Hospice

Southwest Christian Hospice

If they cannot help, at least they may know of a local facility or organization who can.

I will keep searching for more, and will post if I find any, but I wanted to get these links to you as quickly as possible, in the meantime.

I'll be praying for this young lady and her family! God bless you for your caring and concern!

I doubt if the facility is doing this to be cruel. It's just the way the system works. Everything must be paid for otherwise they'll have to close their doors. Healthcare isn't for free and comes at a high price. It's expensive to care for people in comas. If they don't get reimbursed they'll shut down and there will be even fewer beds available.

I'm glad you found an alternative.

You are very welcome. I didn't reply to your PM yet (I was waiting until I found more first). So far I only have one more, but here it is:

Christian Ministries Hospice - Website is down, but here is their info:
Susan Sutton, Administrator
121 W. College St.
Griffin, Ga. 30224
Phone - 770-233-9526
Alternate phone - 770-550-3147

I know it's a little farther out (about 60 miles) but thought I would share it just in case.

Please do keep us updated.

I just found a second address for the Christian Ministries hospice, and this location is only 20 miles away instead of 60. I found this info on another website, though, so I don't know how accurate it is, but again just in case:

Christian Ministries Hospice
125 Highway 138 SE
Jonesboro, GA
(770) 477-8790

Praying that help is found for this young lady!

My late brother in law was cared for by the hospice at Grady Memorial Hospital. You might call them and ask if they have suggestions. He was in home hospice care (he had AIDS) but we could not have asked for kinder or more caring people and they came every time we called. They did not charge us a dime.

A suggestion: When checking out nursing homes, hospice care, and independent living facilities, always ask the local EMS squad about them. The EMTs at the station closest to the facility are the ones who are constantly picking up patients/residents who fell down or got sick or whatever, and they'll know something about how all the patients there have bedsores and are emaciated, or they're all happy and well cared for, etc.

Of course, you should be discreet in making such inquiries . . . .
