Getting subscribed to threads
In the last couple of days, I have been subscribed to a couple of threads I have never even seen. When I use the "first unread" otion to view the thread from my profile, I am taken to the original post. Can someone else subscribe me to a thread without my knowledge? I thought I had to subscribe manually or make a post to a thread in order to be subscribed to it.

Re: Getting subscribed to threads
Believe it or not, you subscribed to that thread last night.
Here's a rough recap of what happened:
- You posted on another thread last night re: pointing out an off-topic issue raised in an earlier post by someone else.
- The original off-topic post was reported to the Mod Squad.
- A Mod came in and scooped up that off-topic post (and related responses, including your post) and moved them into a new thread dedicated to the "off-topic" issue.
- Your subscription option is set to "automatic".
- You were auto-subscribed to that new thread.
- The Moderator cleaned up the new thread by removing posts commenting on the off-topic nature of the original post because they were no longer pertinent (i.e., your post was deleted because it was now "off-topic").
- Voilą, you are subscribed to a thread that you did not post on, have never seen, and which does not contain any post from you.

Re: Getting subscribed to threads
That makes perfect sense. If I recall correctly, that was probably the situation on a couple of the other threads I was wondering about. Thank you!

Re: Getting subscribed to threads
No, thank you for not asking me to research more forum oddities.
This one was quite enough for today.
