Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Welcome to Holy Week, and a time to continue our exercise routines. Let's begin the week by setting goals. I'm hoping to run 23 mikes this week, including an 11 mile long run. It's too windy today, so maybe I can do the long run on Wednesday.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Are you all by yourself here,Michael?
My goal setting is a bit backward this week. I plan to do some swimming this week. But I already have done one swim yesterday, and it was lovely. This afternoon was a waste-of-time two hour meeting after work; another meeting tomorrow, it may be shorter, so I'll take my swimming things to work with me; staff lunch on Thursday; and that brings me to the weekend, I think I better pln some swimming over the weekend as well.
BTW, for two years I drove 25 miles to work every day. Its tough

I swam again today because the meeting was actually a very brief presentation to a staff member who is leaving soon.

Good for you Vivienne.
I've run 3 miles per day so far. I'm hoping to get in my long run tomorrow.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Thanks. I'm glad to get sort-of back into routine.
Now tomorrow and swimming depends on how long the social function lasts.
Hope you get your long run in because Easter weekend is not the best one to try to fit that into.

Yeah, there's not going to be a chance this weekend for a long run. Maybe next Wednesday again.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
I have not been signing on too much in Lent, but I continue to exercise every week. This week I have been able to exercise every day and I hope to keep it up! I have been walking outside now that the weather is nicer. I did my few miles already today. I plan on increasing my distance each week. Summer is an easy time to do that- looking forward!

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Hi everyone...I have been exercising, albeit, not as intensely as I'd like. Recently purchased a pilates machine...for the whole family...we wanted something that fits cardio and strength training all in one--I liked using the ball workouts, but it gets a little boring. I'm excited! I admire everyone's workouts...I have been meaning to pop in here! Have a blessed Easter everyone...you're always in my prayers.

Hey, Sharon. It's great to see you again. Don't be a stranger.
I finally got my long run done this morning. I ran 11 miles. I'm a little tired, but not too bad.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Hi, everyone,
I've never posted to this thread before, so I hope it's OK to jump in.
I'm training for a marathon on May 3 and have to run 20 miles tomorrow (Holy Saturday) morning. I'm a little concerned about fasting the day before a 20-mile run. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, Bill. Welcome to the group. I admire anyone who can run a marathon.
Since you're allowed one full meal today, you might want to have that meal at dinner, and include a lot of carbs, to boost your energy level during your run.

How awesome! I hope you do well! I used to run avidly...now, just here and there, but easing back into it on a regular basis...and when I would fast for Lent when I ran a lot, I would make sure my dinners were higher in complex carbs. So, that the next day, at least I'd get a slow release from the carbs the night before, and the fasting during the day wasn't as upsetting to my workout. I can't imagine running 20 miles in one day! I'm anxious to see how you do.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
I'm excited everyone...my pilates machine came today...and I used it earlier. Oh wow, it's a great workout...gives cardio and strength training in one. Pilates is tough! I have been looking for something to keep me strong, besides weigt lifting, and this looks like it's it. I will still power walk though...but I will do this 3x per week to start. I was surprised it came so quick...I thought I'd be getting this next week. Happy Easter to you all.

Re: Exercise Support Thread Week of 4/5/2009
Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up planning a dinner with whole wheat pasta and alfredo sauce, fish sticks (probably not the best pick, but oh well), salad with avacados mixed in to add fats, cherry tomatoes baked in olive oil and, for dessert, banana cream pie. Then I got up at 5 this morning to get a few carbs in an hour before running.
I ended up doing slightly better than last week, although I was pretty fatigued by the end. Still, one expects to be fatigued after a 20-mile run. Overall, I think the high-carb, high-fat dinner paid off. Now I get to start tapering until the race, though, so I'm THRILLED about that!
