Default Any Nursing Orders?

I was wondering if there is any such thing as a nun that is a nurse, like in a hospital? If so, can you post the orders and if they wear a traditional habit (this is a must).

The woman came from a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his head to be superior, but from his side to be equal. Under his arm to be protected, and next to his heart to be loved.

Absolutely! There are several orders that are nurses and Sisters. They are considered active/contemplative, not cloistered. The one thing that is important to know for a vocation search is what spirituality you are attracted to. There are MANY habited nursing Sisters. Off the top of my head, I know of my future Sisters (God-willing). The Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus in Milwaukee, WI.

http://www.carmelitedcjnorth.org/

They pay for their Sisters to go to nursing school if they don't already have degrees. They work in their homes for the elderly (NOT nursing homes).

There are also the Little Sisters of the Poor at http://www.littlesistersofthepoor.org/

You might want to browse through these orders from the Institute of Religious Life:

Woman's Vocations in Nursing

Please let me know if I can be of anymore assistance. May God bless you! I hope that you have a spiritual director and if you don't, you should think about getting one (priest, brother, sister, deacon, or qualified lay person). SD's are invaluable!

Another order to check out--Religious Sisters of Mercy of Alma, Michigan.

It seems that most nursing orders of women wear a modified habit as opposed to a "traditional habit". Try and look a little deeper into the communities and see what they have to say about their prayer life and community life as well.

I also recall an order called the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne who, I believe, care for the terminally ill with cancer.

Our Community, the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm, is a nursing Community dedicated to the care of the elderly. I am also a nurse. You can check our website at www.carmelitesisters.com

...and how about for the rest of us?

Actually, I was surfing, looking for a Catholic Nurses group (am aware of the Nurses Christian Fellowship, but didn't know if there was something else), and stumbled across this thread.

What would a male nurse-wannabe have in terms of options?

I'm certain that there are male religious orders that you can look into. I haven't come up with anything yet, but I'll be searching.

Yes....for men there is the Alexian Brothers. They do medical work (Alexian Brothers Health Care system).

Here is a series of recruiting ads and news clips about them.

and one of their web site http://www.alexianbrothers.org/index...s&category=ICP

You can be between 20 & 55 years old. They wear a religious clothing.
