I will see if I can find anything specific to France. The Franciscan Youth group that is associated with the Secular Franciscan Order is called Franciscan Youth.

The following is the link to the US version of the that organization.

I will keep looking to see if I can find the French equivalent. I am pretty sure there would be some Franciscan youth movement in France.

[Added]From what I can tell the International Franciscan Youth group goes by the abbreviation YouFra. As of right now I have found some links talking about a French group, espeically in regards to meeting a World Youth Day and an international Congress but I haven't found any links or contact information for the group. Maybe that will give you more to search on.

President Obama appoints Franciscan friar to bioethics panel

APRIL 12 (Catholic World News) -- President Barack Obama has appointed a Franciscan friar who teaches at the University of Chicago as a member of his Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues. An opponent of embryonic stem cell research and human cloning, Brother Daniel P. Sulmasy was influential in persuading the Catholic Health Association that Catholic hospitals could licitly administer the Plan B morning-after pill to rape victims.

Thank you for that valuable piece of news. As much as I love hearing that a friar who opposes such big moral issues, was placed in such an influential position, it saddens me to hear his opinion on the Plan-B morning after pill. Especially when he says that it is licit, when it is clearly illicit with Catholic teaching. I'll keep him in my prayers: he is in a heavily pressured position.

The following post came from the regional vice-minister for SFO of my region. I don't think it is appropriate to post her name on here without her permission but I will put up the contents of her post. It did say "feel free to forward this message to others".

It was titled: Eco-Justice Notes: Unacceptable Risk in the Gulf.

Quote:
Please forward to members of your fraternities.....In light of the environmental catastrophy that is now worse than any other oil spill in history, I ask that you join me in praying not only for the people who make their living on the Gulf, but for those animals--oysters, shrimp, birds--the plant life and the eco-system that will be forever changed.....

I hope that this will be a wake-up call in some way, but right now I am not exactly sure how.....

much peace,
It also had a link to the following article Unacceptable Risk in the Gulf

Feel free to comment.

The feast day of St. Bonaventure is coming up on 7/15. The following made Catholic news sources:

Quote:

CNA STAFF, (CNA) - This coming Thursday marks the feast day of St. Bonaventure, who is called “The Seraphic Doctor” of the Church. St. Bonaventure is known for his leadership of the Franciscans and his great intellectual contributions to theology and philosophy. St. Bonaventure was born in Bagnorea in Tuscany, Italy. He is widely believed to have been born in the year 1221, although some accounts say 1217.

St. Maximilian Kolbe was the first modern Franciscan Saint I read about. The friary my SFO fraternity meets at, is blessed to have one of the rare 1st class relics of St. Kolbe and a Statue blessed by Pope JPII at the canonization Mass for St. Kolbe.

Quote:
Feast Of St. Maximilian Kolbe, Martyr Of Auschwitz, To Be Celebrated August 14

CNA STAFF (CNA) -
Saint Maximilian Kolbe, the Polish Franciscan priest, missionary and martyr, will soon be celebrated throughout the Church on his feast day, August 14. The saint died in the concentration camp at Auschwitz, during World War II, and is remembered as a “martyr of charity” for dying in place of another prisoner who had a wife and children. He was canonized by Pope John Paul II on October 10, 1982.

Quote:
Clare Of Assisi: A Decisive Impulse To Church Renewal

VATICAN CITY (VIS) - Benedict XVI dedicated his catechesis during this morning's general audience to St. Clare of Assisi (1193-1253), a contemporary of St. Francis and one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic Church. "Her witness", the Pope said, "shows us how much the Church is indebted to courageous women rich in faith who, like her, were capable of giving a decisive impulse to ecclesial renewal".

Here is a link to the entire text of the Pope's address about St. Clare.

Quote:
On Clare of Assisi

"The Whole Church Is Indebted to Courageous Women"

VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 15, 2010 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of the address Benedict XVI gave today at the general audience held in Paul VI Hall.

* * *

Dear brothers and sisters,

One of the most beloved saints is without a doubt St. Clare of Assisi, who lived in the 13th century and was a contemporary of St. Francis. Her testimony shows us how the whole Church is indebted to courageous women rich in faith like her, capable of giving decisive impetus to the renewal of the Church.

Wow, good news about Catholics actually made a mainstream news feed.

MSNBC link

Quote:
Identical twins Julian and Adrian Riester were born seconds apart 92 years ago. They died hours apart this week.
The Buffalo-born brothers were also brothers in the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor. Professed friars for 65 years, they spent much of that time working together at St. Bonaventure University, doing carpentry work, gardening and driving visitors to and from the airport and around town.
