Tiber Swim Team
I'd thought I'd share something I found out recently that might give some people a laugh. I am relatively new to these forums, but very glad I found them! As I'm reading through posts, I kept seeing Tiber Swim Team and a year.... At first, I honestly thought these people were in high school or college and that was the name of their actual "swim team" ha ha. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why so people people on this swim team were so active in these forums. I thought that must be one heck of a swim team!
After I Googled the term, I realized what it really meant.
Just thought I'd share.....

Re: Tiber Swim Team
LOL! Don't feel bad, I was the same way! I though, "Man! There must be some Olympic caliber swimmers on here or something!" I thought they were a group that swam in the Tiber River (wherever the heck that was) sort of like the Polar Bear Swim Club who swims in ice or something.
Finally, I saw somebody ask about it and I learned the real meaning. I was embarassed to ask, though!

I will copy from the post I found on it. I should have included this in my original message.

The Tiber is a river in Rome. "Swimming the Tiber" is a euphemism for converting from Protestantism to Catholicism. So a guy who says he's a member of the Tiber Swim Team Class of 2006 probably means he was confirmed last year after going through RCIA.

Re: Tiber Swim Team
Is anyone here part of the Thames River Swim team?
I just looked into this and I think it is kind of funny... also found the Antonym because it originally only means converting from Anglicanism and if a Catholic becomes Anglican he/she swims the Thames...

There's a Tiber Swim Team thread somewhere from a few years ago that has some of that. Thames for Anglican, Rhine for Lutherans, Volga for Orthodox...

What's for Baptists? Maybe the English Channel?
Anabaptists could be the River Limmat... They had some influence on the early Baptists...
