Default Does 65% of Church going Catholics approve of Obama?

There is a new poll out claiming that "More than Two Thirds of Catholics approve of Obama". The poll by Gallup claims that 65% of Catholics who attend mass every Sunday approve of Obama, 71% who go to mass once a month approve, and 73% who seldom go to mass approve of Obama.

Only 53% voted for Obama and from my discussions with Catholics that voted for Obama, many are regretting it. I find it hard to believe this poll. Of course I do not know how the questions were framed. Pollsters are famous for their ability to slant polls however they like.

Let us run our own poll here on this subject;
Do your approve of Obama; Yes, No, or not sure yet.

Judging from that data, it would appear that the more often you attend Mass, the less you approve of Obama.

Is there a poll relating Obama support and frequency of confession and assent to all of Church teaching? Just wondering.

The poll is a job performance metric. What do people think of when they answer a question like that?

Do they think, "Well, he's done nothing that justifies removing him." Are they thinking along the terms of impeachability?

Or do they think, "Well, he's done nothing that's not understandable even if I disagree with him." Are they putting policy issues aside and trying to asses job performance dispassionately?

Or do they think, "It's too early to tell. I'm at the stage where I'll give him the benefit of doubt on how he's running his presidency." Are they witholding judgment and trying to give him a chance for a bit?

To move from this line of questioning to one of policy agreement seems like a fallacy to me. It is one thing to ask, "has Obama been acceptable as a president" another to ask "do you sign on with his agenda."

But overall your point is taken in that Obama has enjoyed a level of support from Catholics that is disturbingly high given his opposition to Church teachings.

You are absolutely correct in your analysis of the situation. The problem comes in when people reading the poll results are thinking 70% of Catholics agree with Obama. And that is exactly what the secular media wants us to think.

They ask the questions according to your point "how is his job performance". However, they report it as though the respondents agree with Obama’s direction. The majority of Catholics who voted for him did so, not because of his stand on abortion but in spite of it and to date he has done nothing to change their minds. The secular media (as always) has one motivation and that is to influence our thinking in order to drive the culture where they want it to be. It is helpful to them in this cause to convince people we are already there.

This was my reason for posting this poll to see how distorted the polling really is. It makes one wonder if 54% of Catholics really voted for Obama. The Knights of Columbus recently conducted a poll that shows something like 75% of Americans want some limits placed on Abortion; however, this fact is consistently left out of any reporting by the secular media. If this doesn’t tell everyone that their purpose is to influence our opinions and not to report the news as they purport to do, I don’t know what it will take to wake people up.

There is absolutely no question in my mind that a poll like this would indicate strong disagreement for an Obama presidency by Catholics who frequency go to confession and assent to all of the Church's teaching. Probably zero support. This is why I think the Obama administration and the Catholic Church are on a collision course.

I wonder if the lack of voting imply's anything? This poll has had 210 viewers but only 23 votes. 11%, 89% did not take the time to push a button. Lack of interest? Afraid to express and opinion?

And yet the Gallup organization is saying that conservative Catholics are generally supportive of President Obama (49% approve, 40% disapprove.).

Even Catholics who consider themselves "conservative" politically are more likely to approve than disapprove of Obama's job performance. This distinguishes Catholics from Protestants, as conservative Protestants are more likely to disapprove.

Yes, but those 210 views are not individual viewers. The number also counts each visit of persons who visit more than once (which I know I do if I post in a thread.)

Is this true? When I hit the thread several times it does not increment the counter.....

No, I do not approve of President Obama. How could a Catholic approve of Obama? That is like saying one is a pro-abortion Catholic. It doesn't make any sense at all.

If it was a vote of actual Catholics, i,e, those who adhere to the church's traditional teaching, regularly go to confession etc, Barack Obama would have a snowball's chance in hell of getting elected dog catcher.
