I think one must be charitable in rating EWTN's radio and television programs. Remembering that they have world-wide audience, understand that they program for a huge potential audience of many different interests.

Some programs are for everybody, some are for children, some for adults, some for women, some for men, some for minorities, some for potential converts, some for the theologically gifted, some for entertainment, some for news, etc.

I haven't seen any sports or weather yet, nor any game shows, though.

Game shows, hmmm. That might be a good draw. Could there in the future be a Catholic Family Feud, or a Catholic Jeapordy? A Catholic Who Wants To Be A Millionaire or a Catholic The Price Is Right? Nah, that smacks of covetousness and greed!

God willing, someday we may be blessed with a half dozen Catholic channels.

The contestants could play for their favorite Catholic apostolate - split the winnings with them - I think it sounds like a fun way to learn Catholic doctrine and culture. I'd watch.

Great idea!I know that the knock on EWTN has been there are too many "talking head" shows and not enough entertainment. What a great way to be learn about the Faith, contribute to a worthy cause, showcase the Catholic family and help out a deserving apostolate all at once (although as EWTN is always strapped for cash, I don't know where the money would come from). I would definitely watch.

Life is Worth Living (Bishop Fulton Sheen)

My favorite by far is Life on the Rock. Also way up there is The World Over. Call me a nerd, but I also sometimes really get into The Catholic Church Throughout History, or whatever it's called. Oh, and EWTN Live is good, too. Ever since I saw in the forums something about singing "Fa-ather Mitch Pa-acwa" to the tune of Dona Nobis Pacem, I can't get it out of my head!

I hate to criticize, and I know she's a wonderful person without whom there would be no EWTN, but Mother Angelica has always grated on me, and I have a hard time watching anything she's been in. (It sounds a lot meaner than I intend it to be!!!)

Worst: I don't know. I don't watch programming I don't like. Maybe the cartoons.

For the most part EWTn's shows are excellent.

However there are a few programs like the pop-style Divine Mercy
and some of the children programming that are cheesy.

I love:

Life on the Rock
The World Over
Journey Home
Web of Faith
Fr. Mitch and Fr. Corapi
Daily Mass
Mother Angelica

Maybe Catholic Answers can get the radio version of "Who Wants to be a Catholic Apologetist converted for television. Prizes could be not just from Catholic Answers but ETWN's Religious Catalogue!

Favorite: Journey Home & Light of the East, Kids...Storykeepers & In the Beginning, Stories of the Bible (like that anamation!)

Go with God!

Hooray for EWTN on all accounts! Some of the programming is certainly more enjoyable to each of us based upon our own taste(s) than other parts but when compared to anything on secular TV.....I have had the occassion to visit EWTN's studio's and when you see how much has been accomplished over the last 20 plus years literally starting with nothing but hope and a very prayerful group of nuns....All I can say is may the Lord continue to Bless abundantly Mother Angelica and the Poor Clare Sisters of Perpetual Adoration!

The impact that this institution is having upon the WORLD is truly amazing. There is no telling how many conversions can be directly related to this apostolate.

Let's not be critical of what may seem a little cheesy or whatever...this world needs whatever they have to offer much more than anything else that is offered on cable or local channels.

I would offer that with the tremendous costs associated with providing the programs on EWTN that contributions would go much further than verbal complaints. It took me a awhile to begin contributing but now I write a check every month and am VERY pleased to do so.

May the Lord's providence continue to come upon both EWTN and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville!

The absolute worst show is that history show they have. It could not be any more boring than it is, and I watch the History Channel all the time.

AMEN!
There's only *one* half-hour show that I usually turn off.

Name That Hymn! Just kidding, there's no such show.

Seriously though, I like Life on The Rock, The Journey Home, Father Corapi, and The Daily Mass.

God bless all the cable/satellite programs who carry EWTN. Someone mentioned the finances of EWTN in another post. According to Father Pacwa, they offer the channel to the cable carriers free of charge. Other companies demand money for being placed on a cable lineup. In fact, last year during a dispute between Time Warner Communications of Central Florida (now Brighthouse Networks), a popular regional sports channel was dropped for a few months because the two sides couldn't agree for how much money the cable station should receive from the cable carrier.

Anyway, please continue to support EWTN. Be it by giving a donation, or buying something from their online store. Airing such an awesome channel requires money, and if they don't have money, you can say "bye-bye." If you can't afford anything or make a donation, please continue to support EWTN via prayer or just simply e-mailing/calling your cable company and stating that you appreciate them airing EWTN in your area. All of this goes a long way!
