Default Exercise Support Thread Week of 5/24/2009

Good morning, and welcome to a new week. It's time to set our goals for the week. My goal is to run 27 miles, including a 12 mile long run, scheduled for today. I have less than 2 weeks before my half marathon. I have a friend who will be running it with me. He is also running in the LA Marathon tomorrow.

I'm here.

Any swimming I do will be an improvement still following a morning exercise routine, not that I'm seeing any difference, but I can feel it.

Hopefully the drama around reports is now over (once I complete and submit my spreadsheet) and I can get to swim every afternoon again.

Wow, Michael, your friend running in two marathons in two weeks? That's a tough one! Oh, I see the one you are doing is a half marathon - it's still a long way.

(I miss being at home today, it's the day the Comrades Marathon is run and I've always liked watching the televised start and the coverage during the day.)

Hi, Vivienne,

Yeah, I can't believe my friend is doing that, but he's always been a much better runner than me. We'll see how well he does with this.

I pray that God swims with you, and that you get plenty of opportunity to do so.

Now there's a lovely thought...thank you.

I just got back from my 12 mile run, and I was able to complete it without stopping or walking. I ran on the track at our local community college. 48 laps.

I watched the Los Angeles Marathon on TV yesterday. That's what put me in awe! Those people are amazing.

So far this week, I've run 18 miles. Just 9 more to go. I'm on track to break my personal records for miles run in a single month.

Well, I guess I'm going to have to get back to setting both exercise & calorie goals. I did a good job all of last week with the exercise, but then proceeded to eat everything I could find. Here goes...

Mon - I did weights & ran...and ate everything I could find
Tue - Bike & Walk: 2,200 calories
Wed - Run (maybe twice): 2,200 calories
Thu - TKD: 2,500 calories
Fri - Run & maybe weights: 2,200 calories
Sat - Walk: 2,500 calories
Sun - Bike: 2,200 calories

You're the man!!! How do you even make it 48 laps around the track? Don't you get bored of running in circles? Do you use an ipod or something?

Hi, Nick. Your goals are quite doable. That's good. I know you can achieve these goals.

No iPod. No music. Just the sound of nature. I used to think I would get bored. But there are quite a few other people using the facilities, and I enjoy watching what they're doing.

I think I need to find something to occupy my time. I find that after I workout I usually have an hour or more of free time where I watch tv or read a book...AND EAT

I'm hoping to go for a walk tonight (legs are too sore for TKD) & pray the Rosary. That means have the discipline to leave the ipod at home, which is my normal faithful companion when exercising.

You could get the rosary for your iPod. I have a CD of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy set to music, and it's beautiful. You could use that as your companion.

I've done that in the past, but I prefer to pray it on my own. I just need to force myself to leave the ipod at home.
