Default Marriage and Family

In the state of California, a proposition (Prop 8) was passed that banned homoseual "marriages", definining marriage as between a man and a woman. This definition is what marriage is, and those who believe homosexuals should be allowed to marry wish to change it. As Catholics, we cannot allow this! We have a duty to protect marriage, which God Himself instituted and which He again raised to the rank of a Sacrament.

Today, the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, and now, the opponents of marriage are going to do everything they can to get people to vote against the proposition in the next election. As supporters of marriage and of family, you can do the following to ensure the proposition is not overturned:

- Read the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith's "Considerations Regarding Proposals to Give Legal Recognization to Unions Between Homosexual Persons." This will help educate you as to what marriage is and why, based on reason, homoseual "marriage" is impossible. You can read it here: http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/co...unions_en.html

- Educate people about marriage and why homosexual "marriage" is impossible. You can do this through discussions whenever the subject of marriage comes up; t-shirts, coffee mugs, or other merchandise; television and radio commericals; fliers and pamphlets; websites, ad banners, blogs, and social networking like MySpace, LiveJournal, Blogspot, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook.

- Pray for the supporters and opponents of marriage; for those who have not yet chosen a side on marriage; for the Knights of Columbus, for the Bishops of the Catholic Church, for the Eastern Orthodox Church, for the Church of Latter-Day Saints, and for all the religious organizations which support marriage; and for the Governor and the Supreme Court of California.

Or everyone could become priests and nuns. The world might end faster but we'd all get to see God. YAY FOR PRIESTHOOD.

If everyone lived in Christ Jesus, He would come sooner

May God give us holy priests so everyone can be holy!

I respectfully disagree. I, my sister, my grandmother and grandfather are all Catholic, and we support marriage rights for homosexual people. I don't think this makes me a bad Catholic or an ungodly person. I believe God wishes for us to love one another, and I 100% don't believe that He would love one of his children any less because they are homosexual. That is my personal opinion. I respect yours.
