Default Exercise Support Thread Week of 7/19/2009

Welcome, everyone to a new thread and a new week. It's time to set our goals for the week. My goal is to run 23 miles, starting with an 8 mile long run, which I did this morning. 15 miles to go.

Wow that's impressive. My goal is to eventually be able to run a 5 K, but I am no where near ready yet (just started working out recently after 9 months of pregnancy!).

I can do about a mile and a half now- that's progress!

I have noticed that my biggest opstical w/ running is my knees. Jogging is extremely painful on my knees. That's my only problem honestly.

Any tips?

Lately I just use the eliptical machine at the gym at least 5 days a week for about 30 minutes.

So my stamina is up- but my knees! ARGG!

AM BACK.....now I need to stick with it.

Did an hour aerobic routine Saturday and Sunday as well 100 abs, each day.

Today was 45 minutes aerobic and 100 abs, will try and get some walking in.

My goal is to
do the 100 abs daily
1 hour aerobics at least 3 times a week
and at least 20 minutes aerobics on other days

Goal for this week is to swim 800m per day in addition to crossfit. I will have all of the equipment I need this week so I will try to get some good workouts in.

yes, give up running and switch to swimming You get all of the aerobic benefit and your joints don't take a beating.

I am the same way with my knees. The only way they don't hurt is if I get a good stretch before running. Have you tried yoga for runners?

I have tried yoga before, but not "yoga for runners". Do they just focus on specific poses to help w/ runners?

Just got back from a mission trip with the high school youth group. What a humbling & embarrassing thing to see how overweight I looked in all the pictures. DEFINITELY need to get more serious about weight loss & exercise.

I went to the gym yesterday & did weights & bike. The rest of my week is planned like this:

TUE: Bike & walk
WED: Walk
THU: Bike & treadmill
FRI: TKD, weights, & maybe the treadmill
SAT: Treadmill

So far this week, I'm keeping up with my goal. I've run 14 of my 23 miles.

Katie, welcome to the group. If you're having problems with your knees, then the eliptical works great, as you know. And, of course, as Tosk suggested, swimming. It can be great exercise and keep you cool at the same time.

Gwyn, welcome back. It's great to see you. Don't be a stranger!

Nick, how was the retreat? Those pictures can be quite useful. If you place them strategically throughout your home, they might give help with the motivation. I would suggest switching them around once a week, so you don't start to look past them.

It was good. There were like 80 teens (mostly from the Sacramento area) & we helped the poor, did cleaning & painting, & worked with kids. It was a really good experience & our youth want to go back next year.

Those pictures are GREAT motivation right now! I looked really awful & see them made me embarrassed to be seen looking the way I do.

So I take it you're not going to post them online.

I finished goals this morning and ran the last 3 miles to reach my 23 miles for the week. That means I get to take tomorrow off.
