Chat?
I can't be the first one to ask this...
Well, I'd absolutely love to have a chat here... I mean really... how much misunderstanding could be resolved by just getting the possibility to say something right away? Chats also limit the possibility of having sooooo long things to read through and a really good conversation can come up. Especially in the forum "non-catholic religions" the disputes are usually pretty heated. The possibility to debate it in a chat would be a lot easier on people's nerves...

Re: Chat?
I could start my own thread on this but I'll just post in this one. I think we should have a Catholic chat room.
I know that being a new Catholic, I'd like to make some Catholic friends. While I certainly admire people who post in the forums, camaraderie really isn't built up all that much, where as in a chatroom, all it could take is an evening or two folk folks to become friends.
Also, I imagine there are going to be a few people who are frustrated with daily goings on and a quick chat with someone strong in the Catholic faith could be really helpful.
The forum is a strong community but I think a chatroom would make it even stronger.
Of course, this would require more work for the moderation team, so I understand if perhaps it's not feasible at this time.

Re: Chat?
I think a chatroom would be cool too...not sure if they could do it, but I think it's a good idea.

Slave of Jesus Christ? I know what you mean. Jesus came to set us free.
Does this invites a little of the desired chat?
Jesus taught us to call God our Father, and taught us the Lord's prayer. If God is our Father we are brothers and sisters in Christ, not His slaves. He never spoke of us as slaves. Come, follow Me, He said, not become my slaves. The free follow Him, freely, as children of the Father, we don't become His slaves.
"There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.' [Galatians 3:28]
2 We always give thanks to God for all of you and mention you in our prayers, constantly remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labour of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. For we know, brothers and sisters* beloved by God, that he has chosen you, because our message of the gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction;" [1 Thessalonians 1:2-5]
4Finally, brothers and sisters,* we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus that, as you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God (as, in fact, you are doing), you should do so more and more. [1 Thessalonians 4]

Re: Chat?
Hey, http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/ has a chatroom. You have to login and then post in a topic in order to chat in it. There are some cool people who are there. Plus some cool Catholic Hip-Hop if you like that kind of stuff. I do.

I think that would be a reason against chat. Given the volatile emotions in some of those discussions, I think instantly voicing one's emotions would make flame wars a common occurrence.
Sure chat rooms could be moderated, but on a site this size the demand for moderators would be immense. Perhaps some trusted members could be deputized as chatroom moderators, but vetting them for knowledge of the the Catholic faith and for even-handedness would be a constant drain on the staff of Catholic Answers.
And out-of-control chatrooms would diminish the Catholic Answers reputation. The staff take pride in the quality of CAF and the other Catholic Answers services. I think offering chatrooms would be big risk for them.

Re: Chat?
Chat rooms are much more intense and heated than forums. If you think forums are bad, don't go into chat rooms. I've been in plenty of them and while there are times when they can be fun, when the argument starts, it's time to clear out. At least on forums, people can't react instantly.

Re: Chat?
We're sorry, but we have no plans for chat for the foreseeable future. We wish we could offer something like that, but we just do not have the resources available at this point. God bless.
