Default Wedesday Mass readings (God searches us / Cleaning the outside but not the inside (Jesus call them Hypocrites)

Reading 1
1 Thes 2:9-13

You recall, brothers and sisters, our toil and drudgery.
Working night and day in order not to burden any of you,
we proclaimed to you the Gospel of God.
You are witnesses, and so is God,
how devoutly and justly and blamelessly
we behaved toward you believers.
As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children,
exhorting and encouraging you and insisting
that you walk in a manner worthy of the God

who calls you into his Kingdom and glory.

And for this reason we too give thanks to God unceasingly,
that, in receiving the word of God from hearing us,
you received it not as the word of men, but as it truly is, the word of God,
which is now at work in you who believe.

Responsorial Psalm
Ps 139:7-8, 9-10, 11-12ab

R. (1) You have searched me and you know me, Lord.
Where can I go from your spirit?
From your presence where can I flee?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I sink to the nether world, you are present there.
R. You have searched me and you know me, Lord.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
if I settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
Even there your hand shall guide me,
and your right hand hold me fast.
R. You have searched me and you know me, Lord.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall hide me,
and night shall be my light”–
For you darkness itself is not dark,
and night shines as the day.
R. You have searched me and you know me, Lord.

Gospel
Mt 23:27-32

Jesus said,
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside,
but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every kind of filth.
Even so, on the outside you appear righteous,
but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evildoing
.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You build the tombs of the prophets
and adorn the memorials of the righteous,
and you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors,
we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood.’
Thus you bear witness against yourselves
that you are the children of those who murdered the prophets
;
now fill up what your ancestors measured out!”

.
God searches us - We can't hide any of our malice or selfishness or whatever from Him.. \

But why do we try???

i hate being human...

Anyway, Jesus calls people Hypocrites over and over.. He's kinda like Ann Coulter that way... just calls things as He sees them.. and He gets about as much respect from most people as she does... but... oh well... it'll all come out in the Wash...

White-washed tombs.. with dead men's bones inside...

I guess this could be referring to people who go through the motions of appearing to be Christian but inside, they are... a totally or virtually totally.. different person - when no one is looking... (and even when they are, sometimes)...

there are "Christians" who treat wealthy persons well and poor people like...well.. like they were put on Earth just for them to scapegoat... take their anger out on, etc...

but anyhow...

I'm a hypocrite.. i admit it.. but as the days go by, and if i cooperate (key words here).. Jesus helps me to be less and less of an idiot...

As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children,
exhorting and encouraging you and insisting
that you walk in a manner worthy of the God

So, here are the official instructions on how a father treats his children:
1. exhorting you
2. encouraging you
3. insisting that you walk in a manner worthy of God.
A lot of people don't know. They think it's:
1. Going to work
2. Watching TV
3. Going to sleep

Today's psalm rather repeats yesterday's psalm and reminds us that
the Lord searches us and knows us. How about this part?:
"For you darkness itself is not dark"
-- Can you imagine what that would be like? No darkness, ever.
That's how it is for God every day...

"you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our ancestors,
we would not have joined them in shedding the prophets’ blood."

--This part hurts my feelings. It's just like Jesus is saying to me:
"If you were there, you would have shouted "crucify Him!" with
the rest. I've always known that He died for our sins, but I would
like to say to Jesus if I could, that "no, I would not have joined them".
Then, what would He say?

It seems like Jesus NEVER worried about hurting the feelings of any
Pharisee... even though they are human beings... guess they weren't
included in "the least of these"...

Jesus had no problem with admitted sinners but he did with hypocrites. We must all strive to be "True". I think that is what Our Lord really wants from us!

we crucify Jesus today, in many samll & not so small ways.. but usually we sinners sin out of ignorance and selfishness, which Jesus understands. It is when peple deliberatley choose to be blind to him (St Mt 12:32... mentions the unforgivable sin, which i believe is knowing Jesus is "real" and yet refusing Him..) -thats when there's a serious probelm.

maybe they weren't. I've always wondered about who exactly were the Least of his brethren.. i tend to think, at this stage of the game, that they are those who really love him and follow him even whne it brings persecution - which it always does..

I've heard some say that the Least... are ALL humans but i don't believe this to be the case.. (years of experience seems to tell me this). Those who do evil KNOW they are doing evil... and they know they are going against him.. Hurt their feelings? Who knows. .. maybe they have gone against him so much they don't even really have feelings anymroe (?))) God knows..

and another point is: maybe "hurting" them is the only way they will pay attention (??) ..

All i know is that whatever Jesus did (does) is perfect... so i hope you aren't questioning this psg???? just wondering...

(hard to tell on i-net when there is no inflection of the voice and/or other signs to know exactly waht a person means.. )

i've had this same thought... but i often wonder if the reason (or the main one) i would NOT agree He should have been crucified.. if i had lived back then.. is that there was no Church back then... to baptize me as an infant... to instruct me in the Word, etc...

in other words, we would have been totally different people if we'd lived back then... because there was no Christianity in the world yet..

I hve often wondered waht kind of person i would be if i hadn't been raised "Catholic" (not a strong catholic family, though.... ) - especially a catechized one.. I'm a totally different person now than before i was fully catechized...

Of course I'm questioning the passage! (which one, by the way?)
That's what I do. I read it, then I get questions, then I ask them.
But one thing I do not do is question Jesus. I know who He is. No one can hide
it from me, I found out. He is our Lord and our God. No amount of questions can
change that...

I love the fact that I can't hide anything from God. It has meant that He is The One I can be TOTALLY myself with; I can speak to Him about things I would be too embarrassed to mention to another person. (I might just as well, since He knows it all anyway!!) It's a marvelous freedom that I experience with Him and Him alone.

With God as my Maker, Father, Savior, ..... I love being human.
But it is an ongoing struggle to be human the way God wants us to be.

I love being human too!

We are not our mistakes ...

and distracted, I love you being a human too.
If you were a dog or cat, I wouldn't be able to understand a word you were saying...

i have moments when i love being human... but when i get really close to Christ (rosary/ Real Presence Unexposed), i find many impurities in my soul/ wrong things in my life. .. and that is when i wish i could be something other than "human"
(sinful)..

i also wish others could be a little less human... more divine
