Default Will Father Michael J. McGivney, Founder: The Knights of Columbus ever be canonized?

+JMJ+

Will Father Michael J. McGivney the Founder of the Knights of Columbus ever be canonized?

History of the Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world's foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 12,000 councils and 1.6 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan.

O Almighty and Eternal God, Lord of the Universe, sustain us, we beseech Thee, o'er the course of "life's tempestuous sea." Keep us, we pray Thee, secure within the Bark of Peter, ever trustful of Christ and his Vicars to guide us along the ways of peace and prosperity. May Jesus, Our Savior, preserve us in the unity of the Holy Faith and confirm our hopes of sharing its treasures with America. Send forth the power and love of the Holy Spirit, that we may be blessed in our efforts to set forth Thy glory in this land under the patronage of Mary's Immaculate Conception. Let our Fraternity flourish in justice and charity and give eternal praise and glory to the Most Holy Trinity. Be mindful of each of our brothers, departed, and receive them into the haven of eternal peace. Amen.

Perhaps one day, after all, he did create anorganization to help the church...but I wonder if he ever thought it would be as big as it is?I wonder, though if maybe the church is spending too much time trying to cannonize saints from "newly evangilized" countries to get more people converted...but the US needs saints too, and I think he should be considered more.

The process has been started and the Knights are pushing it as hard and as fast as they can.

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

As a Knight, I certainly hope so but I am willing to leave the decision to The Pope. In any case he started an organization that gives millions to charity each year. As Knights, we work hard to raise money but have fun doing the work and even more fun giving it away.

Probably, and hopefully yes. His vision of the knights has endured for over a hundred years. He was a very young priest when he started it all. What a wonderful organization, and what a wonderful saint he would be.

He already has one verified miracle attributed to him. One more and he is in, yes ??

Vivat Jesus !

It is not quite that simple (nor quite that far along). According to the January-February Guild Newsletter, which I received yesterday:
Quote:
The cause for Fr Michael J McGivney's beatification and canonization continues to move ahead. We are waiting for a decision on the part of the Congregation of the Causes of Saints regarding a reported miracle that is still under consideration; this is a long process. The next step would be to declare Father McGivney "Venerable," one who lived a life of heroic virtue and is worthy of emulation. The prayers of Guild members are most important at this time.
