'New Here' may mean I was just born and wouldn't know how to type yet. Therefore, I'm not new, just kind of old, well, a cradle Catholic now in my late 30s. Live in St. Paul, MN and am always seeking to learn more about the faith. I volunteer at my Parish Library and every Sunday I look at the shelves and shelves of books and can only think "so many books, so little time" I read when I can though.

I am also often challenged by co-workers or friends about the views of the Catholic Church and I struggle to defend things like anti-abortion, anti-same sex marriage, and more. Madrid's "Where is that in the Bible" has helped and perhaps these forums will too. I just hope that hostile non-Catholics are not running rampant here as I have experienced in other so-called "Catholic" chat rooms and forums.

Keep the Faith and God Bless.

Hello all! I am new to this board although I have participated on the Kresta board and on DCF board, both of which I moderated for a while. I go by the user name Della for a very dull reason, with which I will not bore you!

I am a Lay Carmelite, Ancient Observance, a convert of 17 years, a Chestertonian and a huge fan of LOTR (Lord of the Rings) and the author of Eagle Mountain, a Catholic fantasy story for older children and adults and of two rosary booklets.

I'm also from the Twin City area. I see at least one other noobie is from St. Paul. My parish is Epiphany in Coon Rapids, MN although we live in Anoka. Anyone from around here knows what a huge parish Epiphany is, and that a new parish is going to be established in Ramsey.

I look forward to many good discussions here. God bless you all!

Maybe you, Karl have published some info. in This Rock.
I have heard Tim Staples talk about this in his tape series "All Generations Shall Call Me Blessed."

Hello, Just jumped on to get away from the mainstreem. Ever since Bill Clinton's book release there has been a heavy flow of nudity, pop culture sex symbles loose dancing, illicit marrages, and much more in the NEWS media. And Bill himself has said "He has his demons".

I can already see this is a great site to learn more about the faith.
Hope to continue on Thanks.

Greetings in the Lord to all! I have been a priest in the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut for twenty years. My ministry has included parish work, high school teaching and chaplaincy, and three years in Rome, where I completed a licentiate and doctoral degree in Spiritual Theology. I also have two master's degrees in theology and apologetics and I am looking forward to participating in this forum, as time permits.
I am currently the pastor of a large suburban parish with 2400 families and I also teach theology in the Permanent Diaconate Program and serve on several committees at the request of my bishop. I just love to talk about our beautiful Catholic faith and to defend it whenever necessary. In the area of preaching, I have found that the people have a great need for, and respond well to sermons that offer explanations of the faith - apologetic sermons if you will. I would like to hear more from the laity about what type of sermons they profit most from spiritually and intellectually. I am open to any and all questions and to learn more too! Thanks for making this forum available.

Wink Re: Don't Say "New Here" (How NOT to Use This Forum)

Greetings All,

I have been wanting to join this family since it began. I'm writing from central California where it's HOT, HOT, HOT and the fruits and vegitables grow SWEET, SWEET, SWEET. A cradler, I left for about 25 years but returned when the Lord removed the scales from my eyes (hence the name Longinus) and the hardness from my heart. I'm a lector, I sing in the Scola and am involved with RCIA and the K of C. I am married, 2 years to a former anti-Catholic Baptist who tried to get me saved. When she attended her first Mass 4 years ago the hand of God tenderly touched her heart and called her to His Church.

Fr. Donato: Thank you for answering the call to a vocation. I love it when the priest connects the reading(s) with the Gospel in his homily (I know that sounds basic but that doesn't always happen). I always keep a pen in my pocket so I can write in the margins of my magnificat any gems I hear in the homily. These gems often get transferred to the margins of my RSV-CE. I'm training my RSV-CE to talk to me.

Pastor Jeff: I look forward to reading your perspectives, you seem to be well read about The Faith. I work with many people from different denominations, it's often difficult to have an intelligent conversation that doesn't get emotional and heated. The toughest people to talk to are usually cafeteria-Catholics.

Longinus

Karl,

Thank you for creating this form. For a while now I have been waiting for a Catholic form site where Catholics and non Catholics and discuss and debate issues. I want to thank you for your webite, Book "Catholic and Fundamentalism", and your Bible "cheet sheet" that I recieved when I subscribed to "This Rock" magazine.

In the past, I was having a diffulcult time defending my faith. I had a few Catholic books to help me. But, they were not enough. Now, I know how to defened it. Last August, I had a run in with a young person after I was saying my Rosary. In my parish, we have a grotto outside of "Our Lady of Fatima". I was walking home and I herd someone trying to call me. I turned around and a young man was coming upm to me asking about praying with him and being saved. I knew where he was coming from. I felt something inside of me making me to defend my faith. I was polite when I was talking to him. We talked for a half hour. I made sure I controlled the argument. After we departed, I felt stronger in my faith.

I am going to order more books from Catholic Answers. Thanks again Karl. You are helping more people back into the Catholic Church.

Hi glad you are here. I don't have as large a family as you do, but have as wide a span. 4 girls and 1 boy from 37 with 2 grandchildren to 18. One thing I've found is that you can want and pray for them, but can't force them to love the faith...only love God. It seems that from about 14 or so thru college they seem to fall away. Only go to church when they are home..and often complain...but as they get older and marry, they build on the foundation that we as parents have set. Just keep on sharing your love for the faith and pray that they will understand the foundation that you and your husband have laid for them...you built it on rock, not sand and it will withstand the test of time.

Just think of your own journey..probably many peaks and valleys.

God Bless,

Newby
