Default "I Thirst" -- As if starving is not enough, why no water?

It seems incomprehensible to me to not only kill Terri by starvation, but, why pray Lord also deprive her of water. I wonder what is the rationale for this? It seems an excessively cruel and unnecessary treatment to doubly deprive her.

Simple and barbaric, she'll die a lot faster.

Because it's the dehydration that will kill her.

Her "husband" actually was on the news the other day declaring that Terri does not feel anything. She no longer has any sense of feeling. Where does he get that information? She isn't paralized!! She has brain damage. She can feel her self starving...although I pray God will be merciful and not let her feel it...she has suffered so much already.

I don't get it. If she is not deemed worthy to feed, I don't see why they don't just give her a shot to stop her heart and kill her. If she is not human enough to feed, why is she human enough to be unwilling to euthanize her?

Surely if she were a dog, they would think it cruel not to euthanize her rather than starve her. I don't get it. Is it against the law to give her a shot and simultaneously legal to starve her?

BTW, would it be illegal to stop feeding her but still give her water? Would it be considered cruel by the powers that be?

I just can't grasp what the world is thinking.

You just hit upon the next logical step on the slippery slope: "why they don't just give her a shot to stop her heart and kill her."

I know you made the statement to show how bad stravation is. And I agree with you. But that's also what the pro-death people hope the society will say! Then they can move on to the next step:direct injection. That is what happened in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Somehow, in the warped thinking of the judges, taking action to kill her with a gun or some drugs would be murder, but refusing to give her food and water is not.

I want to type in a page I found in an old Novena Book that I came upon in a Catholic book store. It is a well used old edition.

(The Seven Last Words)
1. "Father, forgive them; they do not know what they are doing" (Lk 23:34)
2. "I assue you: this day you will be with Me in paradise" (Lk 23:43
3. "Woman, there is your Son" (Jn 19:26)
4. "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" (Mt 27:46)
5. "I am Thirsty" (Jn 19: 28)
6. "Now it is finished" (Jn 19:30)
7. "Father, into Your hands I commend My spirit" (Lk 23: 46)

In these seven statements, Jesus has shown forgiveness, hope, promise, despair, pain, redemption

A good reminder for us all.
Hate the sin, love the sinner is hard to apply in this case but we need to try.
Thanks, Fitz.

So perhaps you are saying that the world does see starving her as cruel, so they will move more quickly to giving shots instead of starving people. If only they could go backwards instead and see starving her as cruel and so just not starve her.

That they aren't giving her water says to me either that they see her as totally not human, so the dehydration that is causing is irrelevant, or they think that giving her water would make the death take longer and be cruel. Perhpas you are right, either belief is going to lead to giving people shots to die.

I wish the local media would stop calling this a right to die case.

The court order by judge Greer has ordered that no ice chips,or any other form of water be given to Terri at all. They're not even allow to use a moistened swab to wipe out her mouth.

*rolls eyes* The body can survive w/o food, but, not w/o water. It's the lack of fluids in her body that will ultimately kill her. If she were kept being given water, she could last for over a month...can't have that.

I know Linda, but I have some limited experience with hospice and my parents dying and my husbands parents dying and they were such wonderful people that we dealt with. How can they uphold this type of order from a judge and why aren't they screaming bloody murder!

I'm not sure why you posted this to me. I know she dies faster without the water, and dehydration is nasty to watch and experience (swollen tongue, etc). I think if a person were somewhere where they could not be rescued and they had no food whatsoever, but they had lots of water, well, I think lots of people would drink the water. They'd choose a path that would lead to death in a month, not a week or two, and not just to live longer, but because of pain. If they think Terri is a nothing, then what is time to her? So why not go with the option most people would pick to be on the safe side (on the chance that she can feel something)? (I'm assuming a death shot is illegal in FL).

Sorry if I'm not making sense. This topic is outrageously distressing to me.
