But the SSPX's masses are just as illicit.

Yes!

The SSPV most definately is not akin to the SSPX. The SSPX is not schismatic (As Cardinal Ratzinger has said), per say, but is in "imperfect communion".

Their mass is valid, not licit.

So is the SSPV. And, er, the Eastern Orthodox. "Valid" does not equate to "Catholics should go!" or even "Hey, it's Catholic!"

Yes, any Mass said outside the Catholic church, properly, can be valid but illicit, right?
But, I would, and do criticize the SSPV, not the people who go to their chapels, invalid clergy. I do have some knowledge of the SSPV. I was once in contact with a Nun of their society, from the Daughters of Mary. She told me, that it is not in their position (or the society) to say if the current Pope was true or not. Though, she kind of gave it away that she wasn't in Communion with the church, because I explicitly asked her "Were they in Communion with the Church?"
I even posted a thread in the Vocations about it, to see if they were in communion with the church or not (long lost ).

But, the SSPV is not in communion with the Church, and the SSPX is in "imperfect communion", so you would be better off going to the SSPX, but it still doesn't fulfill your Sunday obligation. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, I can't find a document on that issue, just what people have said )

The SSPV calls itself the "Tridentine Catholic Church" and other various names, which confuses me.
