March 31st--Day of Infamy
Today is a day of infamy for the USA, IMHO. But, it could be turned into a day of triumph for all our disabled Americans if our president were to name it "National Disabled Americans Day", if there isn't one already.
We need to embrace our disabled not think of them as "poor things that ought to be dead" or as inconvenient. They are human beings with as much right to live as the healthiest of us. What do you all think of my idea?

Yes, something should be done. This day must never be forgotten.

Good idea! December 3 is the UN International Day of Disabled Persons, March 31 could be our own day.

Re: March 31st--Day of Infamy
I think your idea is wonderful.
Notice how some are so able to disregard or cast aside a disabled person as something to pity and not as worthy as others. Throughout this process we'd hear many people make mention that "Terri is just one of many and she is only controversial because she is in the media". Yet (hopefully), when they learn of Terri's death they get a bit of a sick feeling in thier stomach (that they probably won't admit to).
We get a tear in our eye because in this process we have come to know Terri. All the "others" are just as worthy of tears, we just don't know them.
I'd venture a guess that Terri's death has changed a lot of minds.

If I remember correctly, Terri was born on December 3rd.

I'm in. I'll check and see if we have a Day for the Disabled in Canada. If not, this day is hers.

Re: March 31st--Day of Infamy
I think we should get a petition going for a National Disabled Americans Day. The best way, I think, to get the ball rolling would be a website. Now, I have a website, but it is a commercial one (dedicated to putting out good Catholic writing, but commercial nonetheless). If anyone here has a religious one on which a page could be added for a petition maybe that would be the way to go. If anyone has any other ideas, please share them with us!

I think that many of us have become more open to the value of handicapped persons through this time. Terri has put a human face to those whom our society tries to hide away. Her death has made us realize that there are so many others who are also seen as the lesser among us, and that their lives are important & meaningful lives.
We have seen so much prayer for Terri & her family. This, too, is a great legacy from her.
Some--including her husband devalued her. But, many people with wealth, power & position will leave nothing behind but money & bitter memories. Terri has left us such wondrous blessings; hopefully,we will always treasure them in our hearts--the gifts of one who was seen by some as worthless-- has left us gifts beyond price!!

That sounds good to me. I am a proud mother of a Down Syndrome child and I wouldn't trade her for all the tea in China. If Jesus said to me I can make her normal for you I would say please leave her as you gave her to me PERFECT. I thank God all the time for her.
God Bless

A project that big needs it's own website and unique website. I'd recommend registering something and finding a host.

Re: March 31st--Day of Infamy
Then I guess in a way it's good this was today rather then tomorrow... otherwise we'd be having to compete with April Fool's Day. But then againt maybe it's fitting that Terri's holiday would be adjacent to her husband's?
