Exclamation What Famous People Are Saying About JPII

On Fox News just now, Evangelical Southern Baptist Pat Robertson had great praise for John Paul II. One of the things he said:

"he reflected everything that is good in the Catholic Church and in the Christian faith"

"I pray for his Holiness, for all that he bears in his soul. And I ask God to accompany him, to fill him with his light, and to flood him even more with serenity." Declaration of Bishop Javier Echevarria, Prelate of Opus Dei, April 1, 2005.

U. S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas:

"Today we lost a hero of our age. Karol Wojtyla lived and died a warrior-saint, and we remember with joy and gratitude his service to mankind. At the news of his death, we mourn, we pray, and we bow our heads in thanks that such men ever live. He was more than a good and holy man: he was a lion."

Hi,

You said "On Fox News just now, Evangelical Southern Baptist Pat Robertson had great praise for John Paul II."

Pat Robertson is not a Southern Baptist minister. Actually he is not even a Baptist. Pat Robertson is the Charismatic founder of CBN.

Thanks for taking notice, Fredrock

I thought I heard Pat Robertson say he was a 'Southern Baptist' when I heard him on Fox a few days ago? Maybe I'm mistaken.

I think we should all email him and thank him for his kind words. A friend told me (don't know if it's true) that he has taken some flack from fundamentalists on his generous words towards the Pope. But, it doesn't seem to have stopped him if it's true. I've seen him on Fox a couple times and he hasn't toned down his praise. Hats off to Pat!

As Elzee just said, that is what he called himself on Fox channel this week.

That's where I got it!

I havent heard anything from Billy Graham on the death of JPII. I find this odd seeing how Billy Graham considered the Pope his friend. Did I miss it?

Another quote from Pat Robertson from the FOX interview.

ROBERTSON: Well, I think so, but he didn't do it by any kind of doctrinal compromise. I mean, he held to some things that perhaps the evangelicals might not totally agree with, but that's OK.

But the man had principles. And that -- you know, the thing that we look for in a spiritual leader is somebody who is deeply spiritual, and he was deeply spiritual. He was a man of great personal piety and personal faith. That's the kind of leader that all Christians look for. They want somebody who really loves the Lord and shows it in everything he does.

And that's -- so he didn't compromise in order to just say, I'm going to tone down my message to please the evangelicals or to please the Jews or to please some other group. He didn't do that. He held to his principles but yet there was love in his heart toward all people.

More Pat Robertson read closely

ROBERTSON: Well, we certainly was loved by the evangelicals, because he held to the tenants of the faith that we all admired. And we thought of him as like a rock, a bulwark, against some of the shifting tides in a very highly secularized society.

He stood for moral values. He stood for the eternal principles. He stood for the sanctity and dignity of life. And we were just thrilled to have somebody, in a sense, alongside of us and that we could be alongside of him. And I think it drew the Catholics and evangelicals much closer together because of him.

Yes, Billy Graham was on Larry King via telephone this weekend and spoke at length about his admiration and love for the Pope. Graham's son will attend the Pope's funeral.

Did Pat Robertson just say that the Pope, who is the successor of St. Peter the Apostle, was like a rock on which the Church of Christ was built?
