Default What will the new pope be named?

As everyone knows, our Pope John Paul knows his work on earth is coming to an end. We know how great its been having him guide The Church.

I decided to make a poll concerning what the next pope will be named and ask for your input on if the name will reflect His personality/style.

Is there a policy on what name he picks? Does he have to pick from a list or something? Or is this just a little humorous game to take our minds off the pain for a little while? I've been a Catholic all my life, and if there's a policy, I'm very embarrassed to say that I don't know about it.

I remember a priest talking about this a while ago on the radio. The new pope gets to choose whatever name he wants. I suppose it would have to be a saint's name, though. He kind of joked, saying that every priest kind of thinks about what name he would choose if he were pope. But I think there are people who have an idea that they may be chosen, and think a while beforehand about the choice.

I don't believe there is a policy. Before John Paul I, there had never been a Pope with 2 names.

I vote for Gregory XVII. We haven't had a pope with that name since 1846!

There is no policy. He might keep his baptismal name for all we know.

Some of the choices in the poll are based on some prophecies. It's been said by some that the next pope, prophesied to be The Glory of Olives will be Benedictine and that may be related to speculation that his name will be Benedict. It's also been said by some that a future pope will take the name of Pius based on a vision given to a certain pope.

Not too nitpick but the Holy Father is not "named." Rather, he takes a name of his own choosing.

A lot will depend upon the pope's personality, what direction he may hope to move the Church in, personal devotion to some saint or previous pope. Some would suggest, for instance, that the next pope will quite naturally take the name "John Paul III" and find his work to be continuing to build upon that of the present papacy. However, the new pope may want to change directions entirely, find a new emphasis, or separate himself from a man in whose shoes he feels he can not follow.

I have long thought that a pope ought to call himself "Timothy".

I had a dream about two months ago that was set in the period of the next Conclave. I walked past a bank of newspaper honor boxes and saw a headline that the new Pope had picked the name "Urban." I exclaimed loudly, "URBAN???!!! There hasn't been a Pope Urban in years."

But I'm not holding my breath that that'll be the name.

Well I would pick Pope Pious although I put alot of stocks in Dreams.

If we had a pope from Africa, to deal with alot of the citys urban ghetto, New world order problems. A black Pope with the Name Urban and an Urban, Ghetto world Governmetn agenda would definitely be awesome.

I like to have a Gregory XVII or a Leo XIV.

How about Peter II?

I would prefer a Pope Urban to a Suburban Pope.
