John Paul II has been asking the faithful to pray for him for many months now. He has been very specific in mentioning he would Not be with us much longer, so No, I do not think he will have a miraculous recovery.

The Miraculous recovery will be his laying down his burdens, at the foot of the cross, which he did quite publicly on Easter Sunday. Everyone mentioned his sitting in the chapel viewing the mass. No one seems to notice in that picture, He is seated before the Tabernacle and a VERY prominent Crucifix.

Then there is the fact, he is the Pope who introduced the Divine Mercy as Gods greatest gift to the church. Today, at 3:00 pm EST in the US, it will be midnight in Rome. Mid-night + a second or so will be "DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY." What greater gift of Gods love for John Paul could God choose to give him, than to take him home during the Divine Mercy season, which is now, and especially Divine Mercy Sunday.

Ditto. He became Pope just before I was born.

At this point a recovery would be highly unlikely. By choosing not to go to the hospital, he made his decision to pass away at home. From what I have read and heard from various news sources, even if they rushed him to the hospital and gave him agressive treatments, his chance of survival would be very low. I pray that he find peace and comfort in these times.

I have to believe there is something else at work and why God has not taken him home yet.

It has been all Catholic all the time for over 24 hours straight on the cable networks. The message is being broadcast all over - and I feel that Sunday's masses will be as packed as they were after 9/11.

I have heard from more than one former, lapsed, or even practicing Catholic that they have felt a calling to renew or learn more about their faith.

When my mother died 10 yrs. ago, the only thing that consoled me was the thought of how happy she must be to see the face of God.

Right now I can picture our Pope slowly climbing a long flight of stairs towards Heaven, pausing, but continually pushing himself to reach the top.....because Our Heavenly Father is there to welcome him.......and each step he takes he grows younger and stronger and looks like he did when he first became our Pope.

He has worked tirelessly his whole life........he deserves a rest and he is also reminding us what we have to look forward to. Just like our Lord did on the cross.......he still ministers to those around Him.

There is both sadness and happiness in my heart today.

May God's choicest angels bring him home to Him and The Blessed Mother.

They've ALREADY reached the celebration for the Second Sunday of Easter in Rome, the feast of Divine Mercy, as of first vespers. Viva il Papa!

Actually 5pm EST would be midnight Rome. Either way, I don't think there could be anything more fitting that the Holy Father going to his heavenly reward on Divine Mercy Sunday.

You could be right. After all, there was all the coverage of Terri Schiavo's tragic case, then right on it's heels there is the ubiquitous coverage of everything Catholic on the news. Now with Divine Mercy Sunday fast approaching...the timing seems divinely mandated.
