Default Cardinal Carlo Maria Montini

Although I think it's very unlikely he'll get elected, how would everyone here react if he was named the next Successor of St. Peter? I would have to swallow my pride and submit to him as the Sovereign Pontiff, even though he would be very much removed from the belief system of John Paul II.

Montini was Paul VI - I believe you are thinking of Martini.....

Like the idea of Cardinal Martini, plus he's a Jesuit. One advantage is he's in his late 70s and I think that's the age I think they're looking for.

Well, it would be a logical slip of the tounge... since they're both Abps of Milan and both fairly progressive.
Martini was an architect of Scriptural exegesis that came after Vatican II... he was one of the leading people behind the NAB.
