Ted Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Michael Schiavo, Frances Kissling, Joe Biden, and John Kerry all believe as you say. They, by this definition, are Catholic, but they are certainly not what I am.
I am a Christian

Umm, my definition defined what is not Catholic, not what is Catholic. HUGE difference. If you have eight legs, you aren't a dog, but having six legs doesn't make you a dog either.

The majority of Christians in the world do not hold to that interpretation of this chapter of Scripture.

Wrong. The majority of Christians are Catholics, and that is a doctrine of our faith. I think you may need to change your Profile, 4 marks, because it mistakenly identifies you as a Catholic.

Re: What if? - what is a good Catholic to do?
Some of you guys are just a little perplexsing willing to jump ship to Eastern Orthodoxy if the Pope were to change some teachings for instance birth control and a married priesthood. Well guess what that is where most E.O.'s in america stand.
Birth control is considered a pastoral matter and guess what most pastors in america allow it. And the Orthodox have had a married priesthood forever.
The catholic church is the only church in the world to hold the line strictly on such matters. If it moves on these issues they will actually be in line with Orthodoxy.
The other things that would drive conservatives away such as women priest and abortions can never happen.
THe place to run if the church were to run in that direction would not be Orthodoxy but break away traditionalist catholcism such as Society of Pius X.
