Hi Windmill,
You're a bit tilted. Ever since the Watergate Scandal Americans have mistrusted the media. The average person's image of the media is that of lying left-wing deceitful snakes who cover-up any story that is not politically correct. Look at Stephen Glass, Mike Barnicle, Martin Luther King, Jack Kelley, and Jayson Blair, all plagiarists who made the average American more cynical.

And just read all the anti-Catholic propaganda within the coverage of the Pope's funeral, suggesting that American Catholics are tolerant of married or homosexual Priests. Sheer propaganda!

Okay, I agree that Americans might not look up to the media, but do you doubt the media's self image as stated above?

ktm,
I would go one step further.

62% of Catholics are not Catholics.

I would like to see this poll that they got these results from.

Who did they call? How are they sure that those who answered, becuase everyone knows that all those questioned do not respond, are truly Catholics.

Polls are useless, they can be made to say what ever you want them to.

yeah, you got it
we want nuns in habits back in the classroom and out of the limelight
we want priests to start preaching the Gospel of Jesus instead of the Gospel of hey lookit me ain't I a cute priest up here jammin'
we want lay people to pursue their true vocation, marriage and family instead of hankering for what they can't have
We want a return to the days when no matter where you travelled in the Catholic world, the Mass was the Mass and you always felt at home instead of being a stranger in a strange land

Keep in mind that in all probability only 63 people were polled.

Well, like any webpage, even this one needs to be taken with a pinch of salt and not mistaken for an infallible oracle. I've already seen links around here leading to other webpages with writings I hardly consider to be in accordance with Catholic morality (e.g. the non-exclusive dating thing given as a link to someone seeking answers about chastity).

Also, simple laity members aren't to be taken as speaking in any official capacity. They don't really tend to be right on everything and this forum is all about simple lay members of the Church discussing.

At any rate, I can hardly imagine going to this site regularly as a measure of the worth of someone's Catholic faith. There's hardly any analogy to going to the Church or reading the Bible or anything.

Hello All,

I'm from Los Angeles and we have a semi-independent (It's owned by Viacom) Superstation that reported a Gallup Poll which stated that 59% of Catholics Polled wanted a Pope that was Theologically similar to John Paul the Great! Go Figure.

100% of Catholics do not read the BIBLE

If they did.... "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?" John 11:25-27

"Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked (refering to Mary, the mother of Jesus). But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it." Luke 11:27-28. **parenthesis are mine**

"And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." Luke 4:4

After the funeral, watch the media enlist the likes of Voice of the Faithful (VOTF) and Call to Action etc BIG TIME, whom are probably mobilizing as we speak. Though at the end their agenda to reform the Church and/or her teachings will be to no avail, and will only end up having excommunicated themselves, or have heavy interdicts slapped on them. Particularily if the new pontiff will be in the same league of orthodoxy as John Paul II, and knowing the Holy Spirit I firmly believe he will be.

And if Ratzinger is elected watch them all fall mute overnight. Please let it happen Lord!

It doesn't matter who wants change, God wants quality, not quanity, the Catholic Church isn't a democracy.

We will soon be under a new Pope, chosen by the Holy Spirit, and the Pope can't go against the Holy Spirit, regardless of what we want, that's putting our own will's before the will of God.
