Default "Conclave" of Catholic Answers participants

Just for fun I thought I'd suggest this thread. Pretend that Catholic Answers is a conclave, and nominate your choice FROM AMONG CATHOLIC ANSWERS FORUM PARTICIPANTS!!!!! for 'pope'. Nomnees do NOT need to be Roman Catholic, and your nominations can be light-hearted or serious as you choose. Nominate as often as you wish. Please do state 'why', briefly. Please do NOT nominate yourself, and please recognize this is being done in fun--snipe at someone for their choice(s) elsewhere. So far as I know, there are no actual Cardinals of the Catholic Church who participate on this forum, so unless you happen to know otherwise--stick to members of this forum. Please don't nominate non-persons--Porky Pig or Bus Bunny, for example--nor famous people who aren't members of the forum, such as Britney Spears or George Bush.

Request to Moderators: please close this thread if it gets disrespectful or out of hand, or as soon as a real Pope gets elected, whichever comes first. Thanks!

Sometimes we know (pretty much) who is male on this board. And sometimes we don't. That would make it kind of difficult.

I'm not certain why it would be difficult. Gender wouldn't exactly be relevant--were you thinking the nominee with the most votes would actually become the next Pope? This thread is mainly for fun and entertainment though I don't mind some more-or-less serous nominations coming up and being bandied about--as for instance, Karl Keating. It is of course extremely unlikely that Keating will be considered by the real conclave, but if someone wanted to suggest Mr. Keating here--well and good. In some cases the people proposed would offer food for thought. In other cases--it would just be a chance for a good laugh. So long as we don't mock the serious nature of the real process of electing the Pope, this thread can represent a chance to have a bit of fun.

I don't see anyone wanting to nominate somebody who posted once, seventeen months ago. Remember we're talking about posting based upon people's SCREEN NAMES. If you happened to know that some serious candidate whom you might favor--say a real live Catholic Cardinal--occasionally posts here incognito--I am NOT asking you to blow the person's 'cover'. For one thing, it would turn this thread into something more serious than I intended it to be. Remember--you don't even have to nominate a Roman Catholic--you could even nominate a notorious ant-Catholic. Just tell us why you nominated the one you nominated.

Well, I'll start off the voting.

I would nominate Cestusdei. Not only is he an actual priest (and a funny one at that), but he's already been issuing fatwas for a long time now. He is precisely the leadership we need at this critical junction of our, um, "Church".

Since this wasn't a poll which actually gave us a selectiono f several potential "candidates" so we could research them and determine their positions on things, or how to determine if various posters here are male, female, or even Catholic to begin with, I did a bit of my own research and decided to post a few names who sort of stood out as good potentials, feel free to expand or contest this list as you see fit. Remembering, of course, that his is all done in fun. Here we go:

JimG - always candid and well thought out
GrottleofGreer -ditto
mtr01 - same as above
Church Militant - Good poster, even uses a distinctive font to pick his stuff out easily.
cestusdei - Probably the only actually qualified person on my list.

I don't mean to slight anyone by leaving them off. I just don't have time to go through every poster to determine their candor, orthodoxy, and capacity to postulate their position. Dr Colossus also comes to mind. There are a few that I wanted to include in this list, but occationally have the propensity to be snide, rude, or lacking in humility, or cannot clearly explain their positions. I also didn't include any CA Forums staff personnel, including Karl, well, because they have an unfair advantage on the rest of us. I wanted to keep the playing field level, so I only included member posters.

It's a toss up for me between Cestusdei (sense of humor) Church Militant (Relentless in defending the faith) Tony Deacon 560 (He's a franciscan and no other reason).

Hehe, my nominations:

Fr. Ambrose: The next push in Christian Unity!

Fr. Vincent Serpa: Probably the most devout and educated person on the entire forum.

Mikworld: He's my Godson, gotta vote for him.

I am giving my 1st round vote to Scott_LaFrance. He is very knowledgeable about our religion, he is funny and I think I would like him if he lived in my neighborhood. In the later rounds I will probably switch my vote to Cestusdei.

Fr. Ambrose was my first pick as well--he holds up well under the barbs and thunderbolts of this forum.

CetusDei is a priest? Knock me over with a bowling pin. I may have him confused with some other posters but I wasn't even certain he was Roman Catholic--I thought he was part of a schismatic traditionalist group. (No offense intended).

Irish Melkite would be another candidate. I thought HE WAS a priest until corrected. He was flattered but says he's holding out for an episcopacy. I think that's one of the jobs of a the Pope--Bishop of Rome.

I would like to nominate ChurchMilitant b/c he has been an encouragement to me personally and he always has good Bible verses to share. He seems very wise.

Secondly I would like to nominate Emmy. Emmy has a heart for social issues and wants to see people treated fairly. Also, she is female and a non-American and I haven't seen many nominations for women or non-Americans as of yet!

So after 24 hours, are we gonna put all the nominies into a poll and vote, then rediscuss, until we have a 2/3rds majority?

Interesting choice in Fr. A. It might be good for promoting Christian Unity, that is, if you want to become Russian Orthodox

Naw. I don't think the forum allows for that. Besides it would turn a fun thread into WORK.
