Yes, I also wouldn't become a psychologist. I would be afraid of the mentally disturbed people after awhile. However, studying psychology interests me.
Wow, why can't you chew gum in Singapore? That's a strange law! |

I can see where the Singapore government is coming from on this law. I can also see why this sounds strange to people who haven't heard of the situation surrounding the gum ban. As early as 1983, the ban was suggested following several occurrences of vandalism involving chewing gum stuck in mailboxes, keyholes and on elevator buttons. Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew dismissed this proposal because he considered it too drastic. In 1987, the Mass Rail Transit system opened. This 5 million Singapore Dollars metro system was the largest project in Singapore up to that point. Sometime afterward, there were complaints about the doors of the trains not functioning properly due to gum stuck on the door sensors. This led to the passing of the gum ban in 1992. The wikipedia article for this is really informative and my Singaporean friend says its accurate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chewing...n_in_Singapore I understand where they are coming from with this one but I would still like to be able to chew gum. I won't put it anywhere except a trash receptacle. I promise. |

Oh, I see where you're coming from. It's annoying to find gum on public transportation and on the ground. I'd also throw mine in the trash, too.

I know. We get gum everywhere here. There is a lot on the street and on the seats of public buses (our buses sometimes have fuzzy chairs). It must be especially annoying in Singapore though. The gum on the door sensors would make it seem like there was someone in the way of the door when there wasn't so the doors wouldn't close.

I really wish we had a theology class (We used to have a "World Religions" one...) But a club would be even sweeter! I used to hang out with my friends from french class (An atheist, Muslim, Agnostic, Wiccan, and me, a Catholic) and talk religion... it really helps you to fully develop your ideals.

Oh! And you can totally be a psychologist without working with disturbed people
I grew up with two psychologist parents, and so I know these things. My dad is a pediatric neuropsychologist (translate=child psychologist who focuses on the brain) and my mom is also a pediatric psychologist, but she works with "gifted students". That's the kids who are absolutely brilliant, but their school either has trouble keeping up or they have social challenges. TA-DAAAA

But I see what you mean with talking about religion... My girlfriend's Jewish and my other two friends I frequently hang around it with are Baptist and Atheist. I usually have to get the ball rolling, but it always ends up with everyone discussing it.

Around my school, I talk with a very close Catholic friend of mine about religion and that's about it. I wish that we could have a class in which we discuss each others religion respectfully. Not likely though, my school is atheist.

![]() It seems to me a lot of you are interested in theology and psychology, have you considered visual and or performing arts etc? I used to a lot of Drama in Primary School but now it dragged me into Media Studies. I don't quit visual arts, it has been always "my-thing". Do you guys have health classes? The secular ones (I study in a public school) tick me off... it's so disturbing when it comes to sexuality. The human biology part i understand but the others such as the [myths of] safe sex, demonstrations... i actually record what the teacher says when i comes to statistics, might be useful in the future. My health teacher used to work an abortion clinic for three years, once she said that it doesn't make her look more professional but instead it feels like she breathed death-aroma into the classroom. ![]() I know i could just sign off from health class but it's interesting. ![]() I wish i had religion classes. But this is prone to arguments.

In Middle School i took TV Production, but that's about it for preforming/visual arts. We also had a default art class. I can see what you mean w/ health class. My friend was badly disturbed (not like insane, just didn't like it) by one video we'd seen in it.
Psychology of Religion seems like the perfect field for a lot of people in this group .

I'm really into the performing arts. I'm in band and chorus at my high school, and I might take AP Music Theory in my senior year. Yes, I had to take health for 3 years. It was a joke of a class - you could practically sleep and get a good grade! My teacher was kind of inappropriate at times and tried to get involved with some students' relationships.

AHAHAH! Psychology of Religion...? Is there such a thingy?
What's middle school? Is that part of the educational system where it comes from Primary, Middle and High School? ![]() JA25, i'm guessing you play the harp? Heard (Actually read somewhere) you play jazz, i'm a fan of it!Health essays are fun, i take the opportunity to write against some views... especially when there's irony involved.

I don't play the harp, but I wish I could! I play the flute and the piano, and I'm teaching myself how to play the guitar.
