Default How short is too short...

For a woman, what's the minimum length above the knees would a skirt, dress or shorts be considered "too short" and immodest? Above the knees? 6 inches above?

I am no expert, but I think that it absolutely depends on the length of the legs.

Depends on how good looking your legs are AND how much you want to be judged on how good your legs look.

One can dress well and be modest. Color, style, etc is far better to reflect on the person's beauty than length.

The standard is that the outfit should reach the floor with the wearer kneeling down. But in my opinion it really depends on the kind of legs that are getting covered up.

Speaking as a guy, I really do think that anything over the knees is a bad idea. Women who wear such skirts seem to have an awkward time with sitting, as there is no skirt overlap over the knees to provide some modest cover.

Mini's ok micro mini's are a no no. I think it's all up to what you're comfortable with. My legs are pretty nice so I don't mind showing them off but then again I don't wear the super short stuff and do lots of cardio. No spider veins yet either but they run in the family so I figure show it off a little while it still looks good...lol

I think it really does depend on the individual's configuration.

When we were in grade school, we had to have our skirts touch the floor when we knelt. So Mom let down the hems in our skirts. Did I mention how short we are? My sister and I are both barely 5' tall as adults, and our legs are short even for short people! The pastor saw my sister one day, walking around looking like something out of a movie about 1912, and called Mom to tell her to hem our skirts.

The style of skirt and the shoes also matter. If I'm wearing boots, my skirts can be longer than if I'm wearing flats. There is of course a line where the leg length isn't important, but I don't think any one rule can suit every body.

Good gravy, the shortness of the shorts that most people wear these days leaves nothing to the imagination!

I think it depends too on if its a "skort" and not a skirt. If its a skort, the shorter it could probably be.

I agree. There's been too many times when I've seen too much when a woman with a short skirt was sitting down.

Skorts definitely provide an extra sense of security against unintentional exposure.

Showing off parts of the body is not really a Catholic ideal when it comes to modesty.

For example, it doesn't matter if you had a flabby or a super slim belly, it would still be immodest to walk around in shirts that revealed your midrif, no?

You should never be lax about modesty. "What you are comfortable" with could mean anything!

Maybe it has less to do with the condition of the legs than it has to do with the condition of the surroundings.

At a casual beach or resort or your own patio, wear whatever shorts make you comfortable.

NOT to Mass!

At the knees or just above is as short as I will go. The thighs should be covered to maintain modesty, in my opinion.

I agree, it doesn't matter whether you have nice looking legs or not, and fashion of the times should not take precedent over modesty.

As long as I'm covered no matter which way I move or sit, I figure the length's okay. If the skirt seems a bit too short then I wear those capri- length leggings under it- you can be modest and still follow a trend or two. Now for Mass, maybe an inch above the knee at shortest, but the majority of my church-wear hits about mid-calf, and I wouldn't dream of wearing shorts even if they were bermudas- blame years of instruction from my mother.

I don't think skirts should go above the knees, especially if the wearer is over a certain age. Then it looks immodest AND unfashionable, lol. Mini skirts on a 50-year-old are a no-no for so many reasons.
