Default I hope the new Pope does these things

1. Is a strong administrator---that he appoints totally orthodox Bishops and demands that Bishops not tolerate anything but authentic Catholic teaching--and those Bishops who are not willing to "clean up" their dioceses be rEmoved--2. Make theological CLARIFICATIONS--A. ON SCRIPTURE --restate that SCRIPTURE IS TOTALLY WITHOUT ERROR ON ALL MATTER INCLUDING HISTORY AND SCIENCE---B. CLARIFY SOME OF THE CHRISTOLIGICAL HERESIES--EXAMPLE " MAYBE AN ENCYCLICAL ON THE TWO NATURES OF CHRIST AND AN EXPLANTION ABOUT CHRST AS A DIVINE PERSON--ETC---I COULD SIGHT OTHER THEOLOGICAL EXAMPLES--BUT YOU GE THE POINT--3. SALVATION---I TYHINK THE NEXT SHOULD RE-EMPHASIZE THE NEED TO CONVERT EVERY PERSON TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH--TO ME THIS IS HUGE!!! MANY PEOPLE ARE GOING AROUND BELIEVEING, BECAUSE OF AMBIGIOUS LANGUAGE, THAT YOU O NOT HAVE TO CONVERT TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH TO BE SAVED--HOPEFULLY THE NEXT POPE WILL MAKE IT CLEARER---

marineboy-

It is really hard to read what you write when you put it in all-caps. I think part of your point gets lost because of this.

i agree with you, marineboy. a lot of confusion has been created due to ambiguous language. most catholics now seem to think one religion's as good as the next. the catholic position on salvation used to be very clearly stated. anymore, you read an encylical and youre no better off than before you started. i think people are afraid to offend anymore.

but Like Aquinas said, "The first response to Truth is anger."

hmm... I've just realized that I can't read text that is written in all caps. I never knew that.

I don't know where you guys get this kind of stuff.

I've read some and I got a very clear picture of what His Holiness was saying, Eclessia de Eucharistia was great! Afraid to offend? That's absolutely rich! Do you hang out on here and see the kind of bunk that a-Cs lay on us? I would say that we have no problems with "offending" people and I don't think we have any problems finding lost souls to win to Our Lord and bring into the church. I personally feel that the harvest is great and the workers are few because they'd rather sit around and run down our shepherds and the pope than get out where the hurting people are and be of service and witness to them. You want life in your churches...then BE alive in them. It's not the pope's job to make your church alive...it's our job (and mine!) to see that we are alive in the Holy Spirit and that your personal life is one of sanctity and humble service to the rest of the body of Christ.

In the end...talk is cheap. What are we doing to show Christ to those around us and to bring the life of the Holy Spirit into every Mass and service that we take part in? When each of us is really striving for personal holiness then we'll see our churches become blazing lights in the darkness of our world and they will be full of singing devout souls who love the Lord. Meanwhile...
Pax vobiscum,

How about public floggings as well? Since many (including myself) are all for an American Inquisition, maybe we can bring back burning at the stake.

A. The bible is not inerrant on all matters regarding science and history, it is inerrant on all matter concerning faith and morals. Just like I don't want a college professor teaching me morals out of a science book, I don't want priests teaching science out of the bible. The bible wasn't written for that purpose. Look at the Galileo controvesy. I understand that Galileo was censored for moral reasons, not because his science was wacky. The point remains that the Church is a moral leader, not a scientific one.

That is because you don't have to convert to the Catholic Church to be saved, but if you come to the realization that the Catholic Church IS the pillar and foundation of Truth and don't convert, this is where the problem is. They way you are presenting it, the ignorant 3rd world farmer who never hears about the Catholic Church, but lives a moral life will be consigned to eternal punishment. That is not what the church teaches, that is what the christian fundamentalists teach. We are not fundamentalists. We have the moral imperative to preach the gospel through the medium of the Catholic Church, but none of us has the right to declare someone else's salvaation is compromised because they are not Catholic. That is treading on the exclusive territory of Jesus Christ. He alone makes the determination who is a "good and faithful servant" and who is to "depart from me, you accursed, I never knew you."

I understand that Galileo was censored for moral reasons, not because his science was wacky.

The Church was right in a sense.

The Earth is the centre of the universe according to some cosmologists. (Because they claim everywhere is the centre of the universe - the universe has no outer edge).

And in a certain sense, the universe does revolve around the earth - it's all relative.

But anyway, back to the thread title... a good question would be "why didn't the old Pope do these things".

Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words - St. Francis of Assisi.

Marineboy (et al), you should take these instructions to heart. Instead of constantly chastising others, why are you not out there witnessing your faith? There are those who are very preoccupied with telling others how to live and what to do. If you spent more time living your faith and showing people the Christ-like way and less time complaining about the Church, you would surely be happier. The Church is a place for sinners, and none of us are righteous. Those who teach are held to a higher standard but by whom? You? Me? As Scott correctly posted, you are trespassing on Our Lord and Saviour's territory when you call judgement on other's souls.

Thanks Teresa. You sure don't sound like a British lady in a crisis of faith. I'm praying for you. I promise.

I really cant resPond with all my candor BecauSe they will ban me.-It shows me that alot of you simply do not understaNd tHE catholic Faith, AND YOU YOURSELVES NEED TO EXAMINE YOUR OWN SOULS.I FEAR SOME OF YOU MAY BE ON the ROAD TO HELL. That being said ---YOU DO NEED TO CONVERT TO THE CATHOLIC FAITH SCOTTY----IT IS NORMATIVELY NECESSARY TO FORMALLY CONVERT TO THE CATHOLIC FAITH---my point is that instead of making staTEMENTS LIKE " we dont reject anything good and true in Islam." (WELL NO KIDDING!!!! WE DONT REJECT ANYTHING GOOD IN ANY RELIGIOUS SYSTEM--) WE SHOULD EMPHASIZE THE NEED, FOR PEOPLE OF ALL OTHER FAITHS, TO CONVERT TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH---- the neXt point is that the Churches teaches that scripture is totaly with out error when we get to the meanIng of what the author truly intended to say---IT IS FREE FROM ALL ERROR INCLUDING SCIENCE AND HISTORY--YOU MAKING YOUR ABOVE STATEMNET IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHY WE NEED A POPE TO REEMPHASIZE THAT---

Read the CCC, Marineboy. Oh, wait, you've been told that repeatedly.

Point one: I agree. The church would be better conformed to orthodoxy than each diocese doing their own thing.

Point two: I think the Cathechism does this to some degree, but not so much in the emphasis. Basically I agree. Ambiguity in cathechetical language allows for discussion on whether or not man came from the apes!

Point three: Re-emphasize the idea of Salvation only through Christ's church...Good! For others, there is only a condition of invincible ignorance. This is why there is a greast danger for those who hear the path of salvation through the church and do not enter it.
