Default Andy Rooney's Latest No Respect Outrage

My mother told me about this and I've bolded the lines that outraged her most. He's always been a cranky old man, but is it my imagination or is he more hateful these last couple of years:

Rooney: Global Papal News
April 10, 2005

The following is a weekly 60 Minutes commentary by CBS News Correspondent Andy Rooney.

I feel lost if I don’t read the newspaper every morning.

I sit there all alone reading, drinking coffee and having opinions -- some of which I wouldn’t dare tell you about because I don’t want you to hate me.

I bought newspapers from around the world in a news store in New York this week. Most of them had pictures of Pope John Paul's body on Page One.

I don’t know how people feel about seeing the pope's body. At most funerals in this country now, I think the casket is usually closed -- or not even there, sometimes.

I don’t think people want anyone staring at them after they’ve died. I don’t. It's a great picture of the pope, though.

It's basically the same picture, but every paper used it differently. Some show the whole room. Some have close-ups of his face. They had it from a dozen different angles.

I saw that they only dress a pope in red after he dies.

They said they used a pair of brown shoes he liked.

This was a full page in the Paris paper, Le Figaro.

In Dublin, the Irish Independent used more of a close-up.

They called him John Paul The Great.

This Turkish newspaper, I think it’s Turkish, used pictures of him still alive. Same with this one from Madrid, Spain. I go along with that.

The Swiss paper, The New Zurich Zeitung, had it at the bottom of the page. Is Swiss different from German? Looks like German.

I don’t even know where this paper's from. China, I guess ... and if you don’t think it's getting to be a small world, look at the ad on the front page of a Chinese newspaper under the picture of a Polish pope in Rome, Italy. It's for a Mercedes Benz car made in Stuttgart, Germany.

People who aren't Catholic have been pretty good about honoring and respecting Pope John Paul. But, I think they probably had enough of this now.

One good thing, stories about Pope John Paul pushed Terri Schiavo off the front page. I mean, we didn't need any more of that.

After the show tonight, I'm just going to sit down with all these papers and look through the back pages for the comic strips.

Just reaffirms my initial analysis that Andy Rooney is an idiot. He is the mouthpiece of the utilitarian, social elitist utopian leftists who think that the masses of the American populace are too stupid to see through his (their) socialist agenda. I declare a pox on thee, Mr. Rooney.

Andy Rooney obviously needs to start his day with much more than the newspaper, coffee and solitude.

Did you pray before you read the paper Andy?

I think I read somewhere that he is an atheist. Maybe that explains his attitude.

I saw this on 60 Minutes (I rarely watch but my husband had it on and I was folding laundry). I could barely keep from throwing some undies at the screen. This man is disrespectful and a disgrace to the profession of journalism. He thinks he's so incredibly clever. I really do not understand why they keep him around.

As if he could say anything that would make me DETEST him more than I already do.

For obvious reasons we won't have much more of him. What a goof!
I guess that secular people have gotten the dead body out of death. Imagine that. How crazy is our world. Perhaps they have a more pleasant funeral without a body. That way you never have to acknowledge death. Rose colored glasses, funny Koolaid- the left.

OK, let's stop mourning for the sake of all those non Catholics. Even Rush said, they pay their respects today but tomorrow many will go back to Catholic bashing.

Hey Andy, here is my opinion of your commentary, and I don't care if you hate me.

Poor, bitter, sad, little man, facing eternity and attempting to deny it. . .

I will pray for him. He's like a man whistling in the dark, trying to keep himself from running in terror from the unknown danger and death which he fears. He's trying to convince himself that he can "beat the odds" and either never die somehow, or that even if he does he's either going to be "caput" out of existence and thus never have to be responsible for any actions or experience any pain, or else he is somehow just going to "go on" and either be some sort of "force" or get some kind of reward or good, because he's ANDY ROONEY, for pete's sake, and lots of people just LOVED him here on earth, so he deserves reward.

IOW, he's a secular humanist who is living for the moment.

The point is, newspapers and the media are not in the business of reporting news. They are in the business of selling periodicals (sp?) and improving their station's rating.

Most couldn't give a hoot about the Pope, but, it's the next big story out there and since everyone else is covering it, they had better also.

What did the NY Times feature about the Pope?

All those stations that showed their fake sympathy for Terri, what about that elderly woman being killed by her grand-daughter? What about all the other people that are in similar cases to what Terri was in?

Media is not interested in the news, only money.
