Default Cardinals Seek a "bridge" pope

This makes the case that the idea of a transitional pontiff is being discarded, the cardinals want a doer and shaker, so to speak, with the ability to reach across cultural and religious divides.

The Cardinals have silenced themselves. All involved with them have taken an oath of secrecy. What is presented in the article is all pure speculation! Endless and yet at times inviting.

Let's not lose sight of the fact that we are now invited to unite in prayer with the community in the Upper Room, together with Mary the Mother of Jesus.

Let this be our focus and let us not yield to the temptation of pure speculation.

Apparently Mahony and the Cardinal from Indonesia spoke before they silenced themselves, as the direct quotes would indicate. I just post for your consideration.

Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles dismissed the possibility of a pope from such countries as France or Germany, where "practically nobody goes to church."
"What we are looking for is how to have the future pope be somebody who represents a dynamic part of the world," Mahony said.
Cardinal Julius Darmaatmadja of Indonesia said John Paul "was accepted as a human being and as a moral leader" by people of different religions. The next pope will be someone who can bridge the differences and communicate with people of different cultures, he said.

Does he know the inner mind of God? We have been suprised before. We may be suprised again.

I think Card. Mahony's reputation goes before him unfortunately.

Why is there a bigger desire to reach across the isle to other faiths instead of there being a desire for a Pope who will be a very strong defender of the faith and eradicate the widespread heresy facing the Church?????

Well..as far I am concerned, if they elect someone who is over 70, they arent really looking for a mover and a shaker. It takes youth and vitality as well as strong physical stamina, which for my bias is nobody over 65. Is there anyone under that age like JP II The Great was? If not, I think its very sad and very telling.

With 115 electors, there are probably 115 opinions on what the next pope should offer.

I heard from a prophecy that the new Pope will be an adopted son, whatever that means.
We'll soon know if the prophecy is true or not, does this mean that he won't be an Italian ? anyone any ideas as to what an adopted son might mean ?
Also that he won't bow to modernists, ------I sure hope so.

Anyway you heard it here first on CA forums

A convert. Isn't Lestiger of France a convert from Judaism? Arinze of Nigeria, also is a convert from an African religion.

I agree with dumspiro that evangelism is best undertaken by someone who has cleaned house first.

When Cardinal George went to Rome to get his red hat, there were some people prophesizing that the next pope would hail from Gary, Indiana. Cardinal George quipped that as a Chicago chauvanist, he found that possibility totally unacceptable.

I'm not well versed on the conclave of Cardinals, I've been around since Pope Paul vi, so this isn't new to me, but for some of the young a sad time, as PJP2 is all they've known.
Anyway Ani Ibi, thanks for the info, it will be interesting to see the result, wether this prophecy falls flat on it's face, or be realised.

Thanks be to God for JP2, when the storm came, and the winds raged, His house built on the rock is still standing.
Come Holy Spirit, please send us an unwavering strong determined leader

According to YOUR opinion, which is fine.

I dont see 70+ year old Candidates doing what the Pope did in his youth. If anything, their advanced age will be like the Pope in his illness and age, lacking the strength and stamina. Not spirtually, but the physical stamina required to even being close to what JPII accomplished outside of Rome during the first 10 years of his Pontificate. Of course I could be wrong, which is why I said my "bias". Must be nice for you to have all the facts to state my opinion is "simply not true"

Perhaps that's why someone put a large bet on Lustiger to be elected, he's also been linked to the name "Benedict" and someone has placed a very large wager that this will be the next pope's name. Hmm, the intrigue deepens

So this is your own prophecy? Or is it not really here on CAF first, in which case a link would be helpful?
