Which Other Cardinals Got Votes
I was wondering if anyone knows which other Cardinals got a significant number of votes besides Ratzinger? On network TV, they just kept going on and on about how no one could tell whether the smoke was white or black.
I can't remember whether or not they make the results of their ballots public, explaining how many votes each Cardinal got. It would be interesting to see who was 2nd runner up, 3rd runner up, like in a beauty contest.

Re: Which Other Cardinals Got Votes
I think this falls under the threat of excommunication that all Cardinals face if they reveal the events of the Conclave. We will never, ever know how the votes played out.

That's why they burn the ballots and make the smoke... so that you'll never know.

Re: Which Other Cardinals Got Votes
Right - any information about the process of voting potentially undermines the Church's loyalty and commitment to the new Pope as Christ's Vicar. You know darn well CNN would be reporting as the headline, "Pope Benedict XVI elected in tightest election in 300 years". Or Florida would be demanding a recount

I heard that he got well above the 2/3rds needed but they would not provide details.

I guess this means that I'll never know how many votes I got.

Pope Benedict XVI can allow events of the conclave to be revealed if he so wishes. However, that probably would not happen....it really serves no purpose.

A record of the vote tally is kept for the Vatican archives, but those would only be released by the Pope's specific permission.
So it is possible to know who else got votes, if one got permission to see that info.
The information on who voted for whom will never be known.
(well I suppose a Pope might order the Cardinals to reveal their particular vote, but that is so unlikely to barely merits mention)

Re: Which Other Cardinals Got Votes
I read somewhere that the results from Papal votings remains secret for 100 years. I don´t know if that is the truth though.

I wonder if any cardinals ever vote for themselves...
I am inclined to think not.

Re: Which Other Cardinals Got Votes
Presently, cardinals are permitted to vote for themselves There is no prohibition against in the apostolic constitution governing the election.
