My Priest messed up this morning...
My very Holy and beloved Priest who I admire with all my heart said "grow together in love with John Paul our Pope"....I didn't think anything of it...I am sure it happened in several parishes this morning, because this Priest has been saying Mass for all 26 years JPII was Pope...I am sure it is going to be difficult to get away from saying JPII and starting to say Benedict. Did this happen anywhere else?

I still find myself talking out loud to my mom who died 12 years ago, thats what love will do.

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
Believe it or not, it happened in the Sistine chappel this morning. One of the Cardinals co-celebrating with the Pope said "Johanes Paulus" then stopped, smiled, and said "Bededictus". And he had a real hard time getting the latin for 16th out.

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
Right, it like whenever you hear "The Lord Be with You" what do you say without even thinking? "And Also With You"
Taking JPII out of the mass is going to be hard cause it just rolls naturally off your tongue out of habit and love!

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
We had Mass on monday night (the day of my birthday) in a small chapel owned by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. My spiritual director did say John Paul 2 by mistake....and said he was sorry.
I heard a visiting priest say the prayers during the Mass and said THE LATE John Paul 2...and I thought that was a nice touch.
Our Holy Father Benedict was not in yet....
We are only human and when you have a Pope for 26 years, this may just be commonplace for a short while.
It is not a big deal...
Christ si risen...truly he is risen!

And soon even that may change...
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
In my mind I'm still trying to get used to saying the Pope and not refer to JPII. He was the Pope for my whole life, so it will take some time I guess for it to really set in. And now we also have to get used to saying Pope Benedict XVI instead of Cardinal Ratzinger.

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
Well don't worry the tv people can't even get it right. I've heard so many of them contuinue to call him Cardinal. Guess it's hard for them too since the pope has always been JPII while they have been in their jobs!

Re: My Priest messed up this morning...
If I can learn to stop writing 2004 on my checks, I can learn to say Benedict XVI instead of John Paul II.!!

lol, when I went to Mass yesterday, the priests kept tripping over the Pope's name. Everyone felt the need to throw in "the 16th" simply because it seems so weird not to be saying "John Paul our Pope"
Indeed, we'll adapt eventually!

We might not see it until about 2008 (according to Cardinal George), just because there is so much text to be translated, proof-read etc. I can't wait, though, it is a much better translation!

Yes, I've noticed this as well. I think it may be part of getting used to it as well. I've been trying my best to keep referencing "Pope Benedict", but it still seems kind of funny to say...a little awkward. I'm going to keep saying it as often as possible, manufacturing reasons to say it, until it becomes second nature.

Yes, here too...it was sad I thought...it really doesn't seem real yet.
