Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
Two of my mom's grandmothers were 100% Deutsch. As for nationalities, I usually identify with my dad's 100% Polish roots.
So, in a way, my heritage is still represented in the Papal apartment.

Me too. I'm German and Polish.
I do like the term "German Shephard."

Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
My German wife has yet to quit bragging.
She came into the Church at the Easter Vigil (praise God!), and has yet to stop associating her becoming Catholic with a German becoming Pope hehe.
Mostly it consists of her saying "You're Italian and didn't get a Pope, nyah nyah nyah," or something like that

Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
I, too am German. Well, just a 1/4 German; but this German will celebrate big time for our new German Shepherd, Pope Benedict XVl. Where's the beer?

Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
I am half German also but as Ally has written, the Irish side got all the press. Now, my son is really a "closet" German as his father was Black so no would ever guess that he is part German and that he actually is studying the language!

Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
Well, from my mother, I'm 1/2 Pennsylvania German (my dad only is a drop of German), so I'm all giddy about having a German Shepherd. So, bring out the Saurkraut and knaukwrust, the Lebonan bologna ( a Penn. German delight), and beir and celebrate our German Papa!

Re: Closet German-Americans let's brag!
Um, I'm a little bit German. haha. I usually just describe myself as half Filipino, half Irish... but I know that two or three generations back on my Irish side, I have either a German great grandfather or grandmother...
