Default Should I go to confession?

Hi
I would like to go to Mass Christmas Eve. I committed the mortal sin of a suicide attempt during an emotional breakdown many years ago.A Priest came to visit me in the hospital. I told him what I did and my concerns about being excommunicated from the Church.I think he told me that the Church sees Mental illness now.Is that considered a confession? I prayed with him.I expressed my sorrow. I would like to return to celebrate my Faith.

Hi,

If the priest thought that you needed to go to Confession, he would have told you so. Most people who attempt suicide just want to stop the pain whether is physical or psychological.
This should not prevent you from receiving Holy Communion.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.
