Default Everyday Subjects - Landscapes, Portraits, etc.

For art that depicts not specifically religious subjects such as landscapes, portraits, still lifes, and so on.

We give honor to the Creator of what our eyes can see and appreciate by sharing our visions of Creation!

I paint a bit of everything. Lately I've been painting animal (pet) portraits for family and on commission. They come out good and I can only give credit to where credit is due - Our Lord, He provides the talent, I did nothing to have the talent, so I am humbly grateful.

That's great! Yes, God can guide our hands and give our art that special something - a touch of His grace so it can touch hearts and give Him glory and connect people.

I once did a pet portrait - I think it was in watercolor (it's been awhile and I forget) - for a friend, of her bunny and I felt that and she really liked it. I have lots of photos of my own pets and I keep thinking I should do a portrait.

Recently I did photograph another friend's little dog when he was a pup, and then he was attacked and killed, so I took the photos to Walgreens and had a photo-collage printed up to give my friend something to remember her dog by. She was really touched.

That is very sweet what you did for your friend. Pets are so important, threfore a collage or a portrait can mean the world to someone.

I also love painting landscapes. Clouds are so much fun to paint!
I like watercolors and acylics mainly but oils are excellent too.
What medium do you prefer painting in?
Peace

My favorite for painting is acrylic. I used Liquitex for some years, then was introduced to Golden and they're now my favorite.

I use the liquids and the tube/jar Golden acrylics. The liquids can be thinned to a watercolor consistency - though they can't be lifted off like conventional watercolors.

Golden also has such a wide and interesting variety of gels and mediums for various efffects. (I swear I'm not getting kickbacks from them for this post! ).

I also like oil pastels which are kind of halfway between drawing and painting depending on how you use them.

Tried oil paints one semester in college. I was glad to be able to see what they were like and to be able to say I've tried them, but I don't care for all the stinky solvents that go with them. I haven't tried the water-soluble ones, so don't know what those are like.

But I tend to work fast so I like the "forgiving" nature of acrylics - i.e., the way you can paint over mistakes and keep on going!

Like you, 3Doctors, I love acrylics, but this Christmas I got some water soluble oils and I like them! The slower drying time has it's pros and cons, but cleaning is a breeze.

I am currently painting a small rendition of Mother Mary's face. I pray a lot when I paint her and especially pray that I paint her image well. I am using my new oils and also acrylics.

I hope this post finds you well and wish you a good day.
Peace

I will be interested in hearing more about that! Let me know if you decide to post your picture on the group wall - if you feel comfortable doing so. I'm still a little leery about posting my art online - I want to find out how to put the digital watermarks on it and such.

I know, I'm paranoid!

I'll be glad to post it, it's my rendition of Mary as the Virgin of Guadalupe. My only "twist" is that she is very serious/sad? in the original and copies. I gave her a slight smile. My take is that, even though she had plenty to be serious and/or sad about, there must have been many times when she knew she was pregnant with God and during her raising Jesus that she laughed and smiled. Anyhow, I had painted another face of Mary were she is serious, I kind of prefer this earthier Mary.

Now I just need to figure out how to post.

By the way, my art is not fantabulous, it is just that, my art, and I am sure yours is wonderful!!! If you ever feel comfortable, I'd love to see it!

I think I can help you with the posting - try this and see - what you do is go into your own user profile and create an album. Then you upload pictures to it.

Then you can select one of the pictures, and scroll down and it should give you options to add a picture to one of the groups on a list of groups you belong to - then just select "Artistic Catholics"!

I think you have to confirm the selection maybe. Let me know if this works and you were successful, I'm just explaining this off the top of my head so if I left out something, I'll do something myself and walk through the process in additional detail.

Hope this helps! I will be very interested in seeing your Lady of Guadalupe.

Hi there,
I finally downloaded my picture, put it on my profile, but when I want to add it to the Artistic Catholics group a forum page comes up and tells me something to the effect that I must have a valid picture to be able to post on the group page. I'm doing something wrong and I can't figure it out. Any assistance is sincerely appreciated.

Check the Concierge Desk section of the main Forums - you may not have enough posts yet or something, that would be my first guess. I'll go look at it on your profile though!
