Default Wonderful Night

Hello All,

Last night our Parish had a special Mass in Thanksgiving for our new Pope. There was even a reception afterward so Parishioners could celebrate. The Down side was that the Church was only 1/3 full. Have your Parishes done anything to celebrate our new Holy Father?
If not, we should all pray that our new Pope will help bring all the Faithful closer to God in his Church.

Unhappy Re: Wonderful Night

Wow, it sounds like you have a great priest at your parish. Our church did nothing. I was especially surprised that there was not even a mention at mass last Sunday about our new Pope. Other than his name being said during the Eucharistic prayer, no one said anything about Pope Benedict XVI. The whole world is talking about our Pope and not even a peep at our church! It just doesn't make sense.

The same thing happened the evening Pope John Paul II died. My husband and I went to mass that Saturday evening out of the great need to get to a church to help deal with our grief. The church was full and most everyone seemed more somber than usual. Then no mention at mass about Pope John Paul's death! There was a baptism scheduled so I thought that maybe the priest was trying to remain positive for the family of the baby being baptized......but not even a word was mentioned about the death of the Pope! I just don't get it.

Both the nearby parishes have thanksgiving Masses.

There were several thanksgiving masses in the diocese for the new Pope. I went to the Cathedral because it was the first one I'd heard about. The Cathedral which is huge was quite full. Not packed but there were no empty pews. This was on a week night and also scheduled literally a day after the Pope was named so I thought that was pretty good turnout. Our bishop was positively delighted with the selection and said the Church is in very good hands.
